Default How to change ringtone to an MP3 file

I just got my 750 and I'm loving it. Still trying to get use to everything. Does anyone know if I can make an mp3 file my ringtone. I've done it on the last 4 phones I've owned, but can't figure out how to do it on the 750. Thanks.

I figured it out! I didn't realize that the mp3 file had to be in wav format. When I would load the mp3 into the ringtone section, it wouldn't play. I used quicktime to convert it to wav format and now it works beautifully!

I found a way where you can save MP3 files into a folder and then direct the treo in the sounds settings to use the MP3 file as a ringtone. I have the motorola Phone tools for my Razr and I was able to create custom ringtones from MP3's. I don't know if you're interested in not having to convert the MP3's. If you are, I'll find the link and post it. Did your MP3's file size get smaller when you converted? My MP3 tones are about 450kb.

Here's the link:
http://mytreo.net/treofaq/RingtonesHelp#7

It's actually for older version of the Treo, I think, but the 750 does work with MP3's. I'd like to know if an MP3 conversion to WAV would make a smaller file size. I'd do the conversion of that was the case. With the limited memory o these things anything that saves space is good.

I emailed the MP3 to myself from my desktop and picked it up via email on the treo. I didn't try to just drag it over on the PC using activesync - or you can use bluetooth or IR.
It says to save the MP3 file onto your SD card for space saving reasons, but I saved it directly into the Windows folder. Any folder on the treo internal memory would do though. If you save the MP3 on an SD card and you have multiple cards that you swap in/out, then if you don't have the right card in the unit, your ringtone won't work.

I tried looking for the instructions in the link, but I can't seem to find it.

THis is what I did:

1. Get the MP3 file into your treo whichever way you prefer.
2. Start --> Settings -->Sounds & Notifications --> Manage.
3. Menu Tab (on the bottom of the screen) --> Add --> Go to the folder where you saved the MP3 files --> Select your MP3 file.
4. go back to the Notifications Tab (on the bottom) --> Event (top of the screen): select event category ie. "Phone: Known Caller", etc.. --> Ring Tone: (go to the drop down list and your MP3 file should be in the list and select).

Update:

There is a folder in the Treo WINDOWS directory called Rings. I just dumped about 6 MP3 ringtones that I created for my RAZR via Activesync --> Explore and then drag & drop the files. You have to tell Windows to show hidden files in Windows Explorer so you can see the WINDOWS directory on the TREO. When I unplugged and was going to add the ringtones, they were already available in the list of tones to select from. East as Pie!

BTW, converting MP3's to wave creates HUGE files. I did a 450kb file and it ended up as a 4MB file.
