How to share contacts across mutiple PCs AND still sync with Exchange!!!
This "fix" is ideal for someone who syncs with Exchange at work and/or home, but still wants to share their contacts or calendar with their cable-synced PCs as well.
It's as simple as a registry value. Apparently Microsoft assumes businesses don't want their info shared to other machines, so they disabled what they call cross-pollination. Once it's turned back on, you can sync the same items with mutliple PCs AND Exchange at the same time.
Here's how for the many folks I know are interested.
The key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\En ableNonLocalCrossPollination
1) Establish sync relationships with the PCs in question
2) Change registry value listed above from "0" to "1" on the Mobile device
3) Reboot your mobile device
4) Open ActiveSync on the mobile device and go to Menu>Options
5) Under the "windows PC" sections check calendar, contacts, tasks etc...
That's it! As you can see in the sync list, it doesn't change that your are syncing with Exchange over the air, but it adds the ability to propogate the checked items to other PCs when you sync with the cable.
Thanks again to Sansil at TreoCentral for the heads-up. Truly awesome find!
