Well, after 24 hours out of the box, I can't say I am in love with the 8525...after all, if my Treo were a woman, I would marry it in a heartbeat (if it would have me!).
This documents my 24 hours with the 8525:
1) At 10:30 AM-ish, the FedEx guy (with whom I was in grad school - don't ask) delivered my package. I ordered 4 phones total (family plan) but this was shipped separately from the other 3 (probably from a different warehouse). Anyway, I opened the package and got to the business of activating my phone (and fully charging the battery first...YEAH RIGHT!!).
2) At 11:30 AM-ish, the phone was FINALLY activated (I had to finally call-in to get it squared-away...and there was someone from Cingular on the other end that actually spoke English...no offense!!). I was very impressed with the appearance of the screen, the response of the buttons and keyboard, etc. So far, so good.
3) Initial gripes: no standard 2.5mm headset jack...tiny retractable stylus (I'm 6'8" tall with basketball player mitts)...no 3G coverage where I currently live (but there is where I am relocating)...the keyboard is awkward and it seems like this thing could come apart if I wasn't careful...no cradle included with the unit...as with most WM5/PPC devices, using the phone is kinda awkward, especially in the car (whoops, did I say that???)...no case included with the unit (I did find out my Treo pouch case fits perfectly though)...the headset jack is the biggie (I have one more HUGE gripe but that deserves a separate paragraph near the end).
4) I was in Indianapolis today for some meetings and I checked out the 3G coverage...man!! Lightning doesn't come close to describing it! I tethered it to my laptop, and while it wasn't as fast as the T1 in my building, it was pretty fast considering I was connected through my PDA...impressive.
5) Initial surprises: the "Blackberry roller dial" (whatever) is WAY cool...the camera is surprisingly decent...and the thing I was most pleased with is the fact that my Motorola H3 BT headset paired right up and works FLAWLESSLY (hear that Palm??).
HUGE GRIPE TIME!!!

Like every night, I went to bed with my PDA...to catch-up on reading emails, get in a quick game of Monopoly or Yahtzee...or both...as I was falling asleep, I put the 8525 face-down on my new Lou Holtz book - like I always do (a great read if you're a Lou fan!)...and when I woke up this morning, the bloody thing had performed a hard-reset and all of the work I put into setting it up was lost. Yes, I awoke to the "align-the-screen-like-I-just-came-out-of-the-box" intro thingie and I was both surprised and pissed (I thought it was just a bad dream until I connected it to the sync cable on my PC on my way to the shower). I had to quick re-install Pocket Informant 2007 (which rules, by the way...every bit as good as Agendus), BillRate (still looking for a new version), and sync my contacts and calendar before I ran out the door for a 90-minute commute. I was not pleased. So far tonight, all is well...we'll see after a game of Monopoly!!
In addition to owning every Palm OS Treo since the 270 (well, I passed on the 680), this is my 4th PPC device. Admittedly, I am hard to please and the 'wow' factor doesn't come easily. This is a decent device that most people will find adequate. For an IT professional, it's a tough sell, especially for a device that I may be stuck with for two years.
I hope this helps (and I hope all of the parenthetical statements don't get in the way)...thanks for reading my rambling.
