locked 750 AT&T

Hello,

Hello, I bought a used Treo750 AT&T with WM5. i would like to use it with another carrier, but I simply can't:
When I go to Sim utilities, i get a recurring message:
"You have tried 5 times, please wait for time out"
I chatted with Palm. did a hard reset. same message. they sent me to ATT who said that the phone was permanently locked to their network, and that there was no way around it.
Really?
Has anyone had this problem before and managed to unlock their ATT Treo?
Would changing the OS help at all? and can it be done?
Any help would be appreciated! thank you.

Well, I don't fully understand your situation. What are you trying to do in sim utilities?? And what were you asking Palm support to do?

The simple answer to your question is Yes indeed you can Unlock a Palm 750 to work with other carriers. You can buy unlock codes for the phone on Ebay. You can also get it for free by having someone with an AT&T sim account to call AT&T and ask for the unlock code. Tell them you are traveling out of the country and would like to use the phone while you are gone.

Now, once you get the unlock code, you would need a foreign sim card in the phone in other to complete the process. Foreign SIM card means a sim card brand for which the phone is not branded. i.e 4 an at&t branded phone all sim cards that are not AT&T US would be considered foreign.

Thanks for taking the time to read my thread.

I since figured out that this Treo was "Hardlocked". Too many tries (5 in this case) of entering the wrong code... so now, the Treo is hardlocked to ATT. I contacted a few "unlocking" sites on ebay and elsewhere and no luck so far. They all seem to work on codes given on via email. My hope was to find an utility out there to remove the Hardlock on a 750 treo or a company able to do that.

At this point, no code can be entered since it is ... hardlocked. (Message is: "you tried 5 times, waiting for time out", and never goes anywhere).
