Default new 750 soft/action button probs

I’m pretty much a treo-neophyte-blackberry-convert. But I love my 750. How in the world do I change the action key assignment though? My provider is ATT. The left action key is programmed to e-mail.

I’ve been into the buttons setting, but there is no left or right button to select, although all the assignments reflect the programs…

I know this may sound trivial, but it’s driving me nuts!! Help!

The action keys (or soft keys) change dynamically and activate whatever is shown on screen.

The default program for button assignment only lets you program the 6 buttons (or combinations) listed. There are some 3rd party button mapper apps that will let you program other buttons as well.

My personal fav is Mortbuttons. It's not actually a button mapper. Instead, it lets you build multiple menus of shortcuts (up to 12 per menu). Then you can program a button to activate a menu. It gives a lot of flexibility and it's free. You can also combine it with a 3rd party button mapper for even MORE flexibility.

Thanks - That's a start. I understand the dynamic feature of the windows mobile as it applies to the action buttons.

I should have qualified my original question with "from the today screen" - my bad. but from all the reading i've done, att customers included, there seems to be different default settings to the left action key specifically. most seem to have calander as the default.

so - although i'm open to trying a 3rd party app, i'm hesitant to install anything i don't have to to my pristine (new) handheld. I'm sure i'm not alone in the fragile structure that makes up any windows operating system... plz give respect to the simplicty that rim developed with its software, as i'm a blackberry convert.

that said, it opens another question that i haven't yet researched, what happens if i install and don't like it, can i use the os to remove it? or do i have to do a reset?

cheer.

Since it's Windows, you can use the "remove programs" to uninstall most things.

Of course, not everyone writes things cleanly, and this IS windows... Having said that, I HIGHLY recommend backups. Backup after you get it the way you want, and most certainly run one before installing any new apps that you don't have absolute confidence in.

That way if worse comes to worse and the uninstall trashes things, you can hard reset and restore and your back in business in minutes.

It's a simply insurance policy. Only takes a few minutes but it's well worth it if you end up needing it.

Your software disc that came with the Treo should have a free backup utility.

Good luck.

/try Mortbuttons. very stable and I can almost guarantee you'll like it.
//no, i don't get kickbacks...
///wishing I did.

Default thanks again

i trust you, no need to worry about thoughts of kickbacks (if so i'd be making a mint at work).

but as i'm totally new - i've gotta investigate how the hell to even use my treo. i'm not even to the point of looking to install new software, i'm so stuck just trying to sync using my bluetooth.

i've just got a bluetooth adapter, because my laptop, obviously, doesn't have bluetooth. wish me luck.

but i thank you for the help! hopefully when i get a chance to formulate better, more concise questions you'll be able to give me some more advice.

Kinda off topic for this thread, but here's some bluetooth sync instructions I posted in another thread.
