    Default Removing the Sync Cable

I just bought my Treo 750 yesterday and I've got what seems like a stupid question, but I have to ask. Do you just yank the sync cable out from the bottom of the treo when you want to disconnect? Every gadget that I;ve used almost always requires you to press one or two buttons to release any locking tabs and then you can remove the plug.

I ran Activesync successfully and after I was done, I couldn't find anything close to those release tabs, so I eventually had to just pull it out. The reason I ask the question is because when I pulled it out, it felt like it was catching on something and I don't want to break those little connectors. Also, when I reconnected the cable to sync again, Activesync wouldn't run and I was getting a message that the USB device was unrecognized and there may be a problem with the device. I had to do a soft reset and it worked then.

I didnt see any instructions on how to do it either, but i have that desk docking holder. I noticed if I lift it it one direction (left or right) then pull up it (vertically) comes off the connectors easier. If there is an easier way... I'd like to know.

When my pc got that error message I just unplugged the usb and re-plugged it in. It doesn't happen now but mine is connected to my laptop.

I'll try your method. I was going with the "rip the band-aid" off method. Just give it a quick tug so it comes out clean and painless.

I had the USB cable plugged into the front of the PC. I moved it to the USB slots in the back of the PC. Don't know if that did it as well as doing a soft reset. I ordered a docking gizmo today that is usb powered, so I'm planning on permanently attaching that to my desktop and just carrying the Sync Cable and Charger Plug in my bag for the road. The docking station is made by SEIDO. I've never owned anything from that maker, so we'll see.

The ACtivesync problem happened again. Had to soft reset/reboot and cross my fingers and it finally sync'd up. I think that proper way to disconnect the treo from the sync cable is to press that button on the plug, then pull it out. I must have pressed the button when I took hold of it and I got the activesync chime sound when that my Ipaq does when I disconnect it.

The manual says that that button has no use on the treo 750 though.

Have you thought of Bluetoothing it? My 700p has been cable free since day 1 and the 650 about half of its life. Except for updating the ROM, Bluetooth operation should handle everything you need (a bit slower - and when moving large files a card reader is the way).

Yah, since the manual says that the button has no use I think that also applies to removing it from the device as well. My desktop isn't bluetooth compatible and my laptop isn't either.

I think I'll email palms customer support or something cuz, I like many of baby my treo 750.. its a great phone. I dont want to hurt those little connectors either.

I would not just rip it out just gently rock it slightly from slide to side while pulling gently out it should come out just fine and not hurt anythging. If you have any sync cables or other things from a 650 or 700 series device those connector will work on the universal connector slot on the bottom of the 750. I am using a 650 usb sync and charge cable and it works well with both the 650 and 750.

I happened again this morning. It may be that I had it plugged into a USB port that is on a USB PCI card in my PC. I moved it to one of the open USB ports that is on the motherboard and it sync'd up. The manual said not to plug it into a USB hub, but maybe USB PCI Cards apply as well.

BTW, that button on the sync cable may deactivate and activate the sync connection. I pressed it and the little sound that notfies that you have removed your device from the dock sounded. When I went to pull the cable out, I must have pressed it again and the sound came on that comes on when you plug your device into the dock.

I think I'll try Bluetooth. I have an old USB bluetooth gizmo laying around somewhere. I'd rather not deal with a bunch of docking stations on my desktop. I'll have to see how fast or slow the file transfer is with Bluetooth, though.

No way it does not do anything in windows mobile. It still works in palm os 680 model which gives you the same cables out of the box.
