Default Short Battery Life - New 750

Just upgraded from Treo650 to new Treo 750 w. Cingular/ATT.
The 750 phone doesn't last 6 hours before charge is gone (even with a full overnight charge). My 650 would go several days. IS THIS NORMAL or do I have a bad battery?

Default Your battery

I think it's ok. It's a powerful phone. If there are multiple programs running in the background, and you don't need them on, then shut down those open programs. It could speed up the phones processor. Doing that could also save some power. If you're email settings are set to check for new mail often, then it could use battery power up there.

Really, if you want to get the most out of this new phone, you'll be using many things at once, and sometimes forget to close out the program. Regardless, you'll be pleased with your new phone if you know you can use it without having to worry about your battery going dead on you. I carry a spare battery with me in case and I have a car charger for between here and there.

Get the most out of your phone. I heard that if you're given a bad battery and it's within 30 days, or something like that, then you can get a new phone or just a new battery.

Thanks; for the reply;
I set the side button to 'task mgr'; so I can shut down programs in background easily; and will monitor to see if things improve.

I already had email set to not automatically sync; but noticed that if I open the INBOX; it automatically connects. So logic follows if inbox is running; it might be checking email all the time; runing down the battery.

I had the 650 for two years; and it does same things that 750 does;
I just thought it was strange that I was not even getting 24 hours.
As I said.. I will tweak and monitor for improvement
Thanks again

I just recently got the Treo 750 and I immediately noticed how horrible the charge lasts on the phone. Although my previous phone was a Motorola RZR V3xx, I was still disappointed that the Treo would only last 4-6 hours on a full charge. Especially while using the phone as a modem though bluetooth. It only lasts 1-2 hours.
Is there an upgraded battery available for the 750s?

I know you said you dont have your email automatically check but you didnt say if you are running Xpress mail. I started using it when I first bought my 750. I was having the same problem as you are. Phone would last only about 5 hours if I was lucky. Email push will keep your data connection constantly in use which will drastically drain you battery. I stopped using push and had outlook check every 15 minutes. Now my phone will last all day (15 hours plus) and still have about 30-35 percent remaining on the battery meter.

As for a battery upgrade check the everythingtreo store. They have bigger batteries however Ive never used them so I cant tell you how much longer they will last.

I dont know what sort of work you do. I am an attorney and when I am in the office I usually keep the phone on the usb cable and charging. I have a car charger and a sync n charge cable with the home computer even tho I dont sync at home. Its the ssame setup I used for a couple of years with my 650. Your situation may be different. The xtended batteries offer more power but it comes a cost besides the price of the battery. You can get up to a 3300 ma battery but you gat a humpback battery cover. IMHO ugh! I wish that someone would market like an 1600 to 1800 ma battery that would fit in the existing dimensions of the 750 battery space. That would be an acceptable compromise in my mind.

i'm a new 750 owner and i had the same problem. i have the sidekick 3 and the battery life was the same. what i HAD to do on the sidekick 3 was completely drain out(let the phone turn off by itself) the battery and recharge it fully; do it one more time (completely drain and recharge fully). this should show some battery life change. it did on my 750.

just a reminder for anyone with new phones, doing this will extend battery life from the get go.

Good luck

EDIT:
some ways to speed up the battery "killing"
*play some mp3s
*open up solitaire and leave it running
*connect with a bluetooth headset

**surf the web if you have unlimited web browsing :D

In doing this, how long does the battery last you now?

I just got the phone a month ago, and the average "time" i've gotten so far is approximately roughly 5 days with 2-2.5 hr talk time and 2-3 days with 4.5hrs talk time. so it really depends on how much you're going to be talking on the phone and what programs you're running. i average about 200 text/day along with the talk time.

hope that helps

before, i got probably 2hrs talk time and the phone didn't last 2 days

How do I check which programs are running in the background and thus shut them down? I've looked, but I can't find a 'task manager' anywhere! Many thanks
