SMS files stored on SIM

While my Treo was away being replaced, I used my old phone to keep contact. After it came back the Treo complained that the SMS store was full, but didn't give any options to fix it. In the end I put the SIM back in my old phone, and (reluctantly) deleted the stored texts.

My question is: Is there any way to download text files from the SIM into the Treo text file so they can show up in chat mode?. If not, was there any way I could have deleted the messages from my Treo?

I tried a couple of SMS export programs on the Palm, but they both just exported empty files, and I couldn't find any SIM management utilities on the Treo except for handling phone numbers.

Just planning for the future...
