Question Symbols along the top of screen

OK, I've now had my Treo 750 for a couple of months and have finally managed to get everything working and think I've found out how to do most things (I even worked out how to access the Diary while on a phone call today!) But one thing I'm still puzzling over is the symbol next to the one that tells me how much signal I'm getting - sometimes it's a U in a box, sometimes it's a G in a box, and sometimes it's a little x with two arrows, one facing left and one facing right - WHAT DO THESE MEAN? It's driving me crazy!! I'm in the UK and on a Vodafone monthly contract, if that makes any difference.

    Hey Mumof2

The symbols refer to the data connection from your mobile phone carrier. U refers to UMTS, G refers to GPRS. The U indicates you are in an area that is covered by UMTS data (faster than GPRS). While you are roaming, or in an area not covered by UMTS, the G indicates you are connected to a network tower that can support the slower GPRS data transfer speeds.

The little right/left arrows over a smaller U/G icon indicates that you are actively connected to your mobile provider's data access point. This will usually happen when you are sending and receiving data (email for example) but in a lot of cases, the connection will stay connected even when the actual sending and receiving of data has finished.

Hope that helps, and sorry for my incoherence!

Question symbols along the top row of screen

My little right/left arrows are over an x - what does that mean? I notice it more and more recently.

    Thanks

    Kathy

the x over the back and forth arrows means that you are not currently connected on line
