Default Teo 750 goes mute (no ringing, no alerst, etc.)??!!

I have a 2 week old Treo 750 (Cingular). Twice in the last 1-2 days the phone stopped ringing and making any type of alerts/beeps whatsoever. This caused a missed call or two. The switch on top was NOT set on vibrate, and I was unable to bring back the ringing by going into the settings. I had to remove the battery to reset. This worked (as expected). At first I thought this may have happened after using voice command to make a few calls, and canceling when the phone gave me the wrong person. Any thoughts? Missing calls due to this problem is unacceptable!! Thanks!

Do you remember exactly what you had done before the unit reset. Did you get any kind of error reporting message. With WM5 if there is an error which causes a shutdown there shoukld be a dialogue box do you want to send a report to MS just like in windows xp . What programs were running either on screen or open in the background. It is possible thast you ran out of available memory if you had active synch and 4 or 5 other programs running in the background. Remember the x does not close programs only move them into the background tap and hold the okay button to see the list of programs and close those you are not using. Get back with the info and what happened and what programs were running if you can track doen that information or remember it.

Default I found the cause was the volume control

I have had a similar problem at various times in the 6 months I have had my 750v (vodafone UK). I was in the habit of removing the battery but eventually found it was to do with the volume control on the side. When I press the volume control on the side of the phone, I get 2 sliders appear, one for the phone, and one for the treo itself. When my phone went 'mute' it was because the phone slider was right down. Moving it back up cured the problem. Hope this helps

depending on how and where you carry the treo you may be hitting the volume up down control on the left side of the device nd causing the volume to go down to the muted setting.

Could be...I had accessed the web, contacts, calendar, camera that morning and my Treo active syncs regularly with the server at my office...so much was running in the background. Hasn't happened since Monday, though I've been in the office most of the day (and not using the Treo much).

    Thanks for the info!

this is an incredibly common problem. Palm´s support web page does have some tips, but the issue is far from being solved.
