Have you tried firing up "Internet Sharing" on the Treo?
Back in the old days of WM5, tethering was a huge pain in the butt. But WM6 brought internet connection sharing. Just fire up the app, plug in your sync cable, and tell it to connect. Your PC should recognize your Treo as a USB network connection. That's it.
I believe the drivers to make this work are packaged with ActiveSync (for XP). I can only guess that for Vista they would be part of the WMDC package.
I'm not a Vista user, so I can't test it. But I can't imagine why Microsoft would break a really cool feature on their latest mobile OS with their latest PC OS. Just doesn't make sense.
I'll try winslow benjie.
I would have thought it would be the same as xp too, but palm says its not supported ( that is the program you run on laptop to do sharing.
I will work on it some more in the next few days and let you guys know what if find out. I will, more than likely, have more questions than answers!
Andy17, can you provide a link to that Palm article?
With WM6, there is no app to run on the PC at all to make internet sharing work. Once you have installed WMDC on your Vista PC, it should contain the drivers to correctly identify the Treo as a network connection when "internet sharing" is turned on at the Treo.
(Note: Internet Sharing was introduced in WM6. If you are on WM5, you'll need to upgrade the OS for this feature.)
It's also worth mentioning, I know for a fact you can do Internet Sharing on vista over BlueTooth. I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to with a cable.
Dude, that article is talking about DUN (Dial Up Networking) and was probably written when the 750 was first released with WM5. That was the "old school" solution under WM5, and was painfull to set up and use.
DUN was completely abandoned and replaced with "Internet Sharing" in WM6.
EDIT: Confirmed. The article was posted in April of 2007. WM6 wasn't released until nearly 8 months later, so completely disregard it unless you're still on WM5.
