I was about to purchase the 700wx but since hearing about the new release of the 750 have decided to hold off. Would you recommend that? What are the key differentiating features?
It's tough to say because we haven't seen the official release and subsequent reviews of the 750v. It says have the "black-tie" finish giving it a different feel. It's slightly thinner and the removal of the antenna gives it a smaller appeal as well. It will feature threaded SMS, which has been a feature of Palm OS based Treo smartphones creating a "chat-like" thread when sending SMS to friends and family. Very nice feature if you do any sort of SMS. It's running Windows Mobile 5.2 vs WM 5.0 on the 700wx. The 750v also supports Bluetooth Stereo headsets. Processor in the 750v is a Samsung 300 mhz while the 700wx has an Intel 312mhz. I venture to say they would be similar in performance. Numbers relative to processors do not always tell the whole story.

Here are the 700wx specs and the 750v specs.

So is there *any* indication that a 750 with a Palm OS will be out this year?
I am currently Treo-less, and am desperately holding out for a 750, but really would prefer the Palm OS over Windows.

If you prefer the Palm OS, then you should look at the Treo 680 or Treo 700p. I don't believe we'll see any additional Palm OS Treos this year. The 750, when it does arrive, will be Windows Mobile and a version of the existing Vodafone Treo 750v.

Aww, bummer. I thought that may be the case, but hope springs eternal. I guess it might be nice that I'm not forced to use Cingular, which is by far the most expensive carrier in my area. But dang, that 750 sure looks small & light! Thanks for letting me know!

P.S. Is there anywhere around here that has a comparison of the features of the 680 vs. the 700p? Do y'all like one over the other? Thanks a bunch for any thoughts you can share.

I haven't held both, but I believe the 680 is the same dimensions as the 750. I know that it is smaller and lighter than the 700.

I haven't had a chance to review the 680, but have discussed the differences with Palm. The biggest differences are:
    • The 680 uses a new Phone application that combines favorites, dialer, wallapaper, recent items into a very slick interface.
    • The 700p supports EVDO for broadbandlike speeds whereas the 680 only supports EDGE.
    • The 680 will be cheaper, but no word on pricing yet.
    • The 680 is available as an "unlocked" version allowing you to use on any GSM network
    • The 680 is smaller and lighter (smaller battery, slimmer case and no antenna)
    • Both run Palm OS
    • They both use the same cables/chargers
    • The 680 will come bundled with 1 month free of Yahoo music, stereo headset. (not sure how long this promo will last, but will be available at launch)
    • The 700p has more user memory
    • Both use SD cards
    • Both support Bluetooth 1.2

Top of my head, those are the distinctions between the two.

If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask in the Treo 680 forum.

Would you purchase a 680, or hold out for the 750 (whenever it comes out) to replace a Cingular 650???
