Default Treo 750 with WM 5.0: should I update (and if so how)?

I recently bought a new unlocked 750 on "special offer" because old model, with Windows Mobile 5. I'm new to Palm (for 5 years my PDA has been a Psion 5, lovely keyboard, excellent Symbian software, good synchronisation with Outlook, but a brick to cart around).

Now my first instinct as with any intelligent device is to bring the software up to date- either 5 to 6, or any updates needed to 5, or any updates to firmware. I expected to be able to go to the Palm (or maybe Microsoft) site, plug in my 750, and get offered some downloads. No such luck.

    My Windows Mobile is 5.1.195.

My phone SW is TREO750-1.16-RWE, and HW version P, firmware 1.27.0.b.00.

Any advice? My use of the Palm is as a free-standing PDA (contacts, appointments, tasks) synchronised with Outlook 2007 on my Vista PC. No Exchange, no email (that stays on my PC). And I will use the Palm as a mobile phone.

I gather that just before I bought my 750 Palm were offering a free update to WM 6, but aren't any more. Does that kill my opportunity to go to WM6? (I suspect I don't have much need for it anyway.)

    Thanks.

Well the update does have some advantages It cures audio issues with wm5 in the 750. As far as update you might look in the xda developers.com website for a wm6 update for the 750. Or look at the 750 forum here for fastlerner and get the rom from him. Or you can pm member WinMoPro in the 700w wx forum here and look at an updater to wm6.1 from him You can go directly from 5 to 6.1 without having to impose wm6 on your device.
