Need Help Upgrading from a 650 to a 750

If I upgrade from my 650 (Palm OS) to a 750 (Windows Mobile) am I going to be able to easily transfer all of my data to the new model? I sync at work using Palm Desktop software and I don't sync with Outlook because I don't want all my personal contacts and appointments to get dumped into the office network. I tried syncing my 650 at home when I got a new laptop running Vista but my Treo calendar was nearly wiped out -- I recovered my data, but am really not looking forward to encountering more Windows Vista vs. Palm problems again by syncing the 650 with that laptop. I consider my Treo a personal archive and I don't want to lose calendar events (old though they may be) in order to upgrade. Advice?

Before you dump the 650, reconfigure your hotsync conduit to point to Outlook on your home PC. Once you have synced your 650 with Outlook, everything will transfer into the 750 automatically the first time it syncs with Outlook.

Outlook is your common point between the two platforms.

Vista machines sync using WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center) while XP machines use ActiveSync.

I know with ActiveSync, you can connect in "guest mode" by clicking cancel when it prompts you to set up a sync relationship. Guest mode will still let you move files and install software, but will not actually sync with Outlook. You would probably want to do that with your work PC to prevent merging your personal contacts. I assume WMDC also has a guest mode, but have never used it so you'll have to check the docs on that one.

Oh yeah, when setting up the sync relationship, you don't have to sync with everything. For each sync relationship you set up with a PC, you can choose between: contacts, notes, tasks, favorites, email, and calendar. The Treo can have sync relationships with up to 2 different PCs, each with their own set of sync parameters.

Hey Krista.
I just went through this. I went from a 650 to my 750. You can transfer the contacts from the 650 to the 750 (the 750 uses outlook) And outlook sucks. For me, I had a ton of notes burried in my contact custom fields. none of this info transferred to my 750. I am still in the process of adding the data manually. 700 different contacts. What a waste of time!!! C'mon Palm!!! While on the topic of contacts, there was something i love about my 650 contacts, I could hit the option/search button at the same time and it would search the entire contact data base for something say "restaurant". Does the 750 have that capability???
