Check the settings under Start, settings, personal, sounds and notifications and on the notification tab scroll down to voicemail and other phone options.
When you first get a call it should give a display about the call covering the bottom approx. half of the screen.
Then when you get a voice mail it should display a new voicemail screen covering appox. the bottom half of the screen.
These only stay visable until someting else happens, a key is pressed, email arrives, screen turns off, etc....
After that there are no more notices about missed calls who do not leave messages.
For voicemails there is an icon at the top of the screen near the start menu and the bottom bar should say "voicemail" on the left. When you press the "voicemail" it tells about the voicemail and any missed calls.
