Windows Mobile Office Upgrade - Free??
Just saw a old Youtube video that showcased WM6 features and the guy mentioned a Office Mobile upgrade.
I'm a Cingular User and am/was eligible for the WM6 upgrade. Does this also include a free upgrade to Mobile Office?
I went to the Mobile Office page on microsoft's site and they have a section for upgrading which appears to be free as long as you have an older version of mobile office, which i assume that I do with WM5.
1. is this really a free upgrade?
2. Can this upgrade still be done is I plan on upgrading to an unbranded WM6?
3. Is Mobile Office a seperate program from WM OS altogether on the TREO? I just thought that it was a part of the WM6 ROM Upgrade...
Thanks.

It is separate and apart from wm6 upgrade this is office mobile 6.1 and it gives the mobile user the ability to deal with office 2007 apps like docx etc. Probably other upgrades to the office mobile apps but mostly the 2007 office deal.

Well shazam! That's why I love this place. Always learning something new.
I wasn't real clear on the conversation, so I attempted to clarify it in my head with a little research, and loved the result!
Treos run WM6 Pro, which I thought already contained Office Mobile 6. The conversation led me to believe it was a separate app. So I went to Microsoft to look and saw that 6.1 was a free download for users of Office 6.
I figured I'd give it a shot and downloaded the upgrade to see if it would run. Got it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
I plugged in my USB, ran the upgrade, and TA DA! I'm on Office Mobile 6.1.
So, the answer is: YES IT IS A FREE UPGRADE.
First upgrade to WM6, then download and run the Office 6.1 update.

Oh yeah, just saw that it created a new program group, "Office Mobile (1)".
Before you ask, yes you can delete it.
Since the upgrade replaced the original ppt.exe, pxl.exe and pword.exe in the Windows directory, but did not change the locations, the original set of shortcuts are valid and still work fine.

If I am not using office 2007 do I really need this update? And if I am not and install it will it mess up my ability to look and edit etc documents created by office 2003 excel et al which is what I use on my desktop?

How?
Okay, stupid question of the day, how do I delete the empty folder? I can't see a Office Mobile folder on my device or my storage card.

Open file explorer and navigate to \WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs. It should be listed there.

I would like to know the answer to this as well. I don't mind doing the update, but I use 2003 and older Office documents (plus keeping compatibility with Documents To Go ver. 8 on my Palm 755p), but am starting to get 2007 formated documents and wouldn't mind the compatibility with at least one of my Treo phones.

It shouldn't be an issue. I am also an Office 2003 user.
To test, I created a new excel file on my Treo and copied it to my PC. It was in .xlsx format. When I tried to open it with Excel, it said the file was a newer version and asked me if I wanted to download a compatibility pack.
I'll let you know how it goes after I get done updating office (have to apply latest updates before loading the compatibility pack).
