Default 755 battery

I expected better battery life from the stock battery. Unless, I am doing something wrong, of course.

I charge the device overnight, and start the day on a full charge. Typically, I check and read emails every hr (4-5 messages each time), check the news on the web a couple of times a day (may be 5 min each time), send/receive 20-25 text messages and make 10-15 phone calls or moderate duration (4-5 min each). The first couple of days, at the end of the day I still had 30% or so charge.

Last couple of days, it's down to 30% in the early afternoon. I know that the larger, extended battery would be a solution, but is this typical, i.e., not to get at least a day's worth of charge for moderate use?

Is it possible that applications are running in the background, draining the battery? If so, how do I shut them down?

I took a quick look at the manual, but didn't find anything. I will take a closer look, but if anyone has any suggestions, it'd be great.

Chris

Have you installed any other programs or done any updates to the programs that came w/phone? You may try a soft reset (remove battery). Sometimes things get hung up and will drain the batter a soft reset may take care of it.

Usually the battery problem is if you roam in an area. Signals come and go every once in awhile. If you have 3rd party apps that check for updates on weather can cause this. Usually an email setting that has been checked to check every few minutes.

Palm only run one app at a time unless it is a program that is set to go on line at certain times. You will notice this sometimes if you are getting missed calls but the phone is right there.

If you are online make sure you exit the browser before you hit the end button because it may stay connected to the net.

Haven't installed any third party programs and I *did* try the soft reset with the battery removal. I still think *I* am doing something wrong. I can't see how they'd release a unit that gives you all those powerful options, but only for a few hours. How long does your battery charge usually last? A whole day?

Not in a roaming area. No third party applications. The only way I know of to exit the browser is to switch to a different application, like Contacts, and I do that every time, before I hit the end button.

I wonder how much better the bigger batteries do. I've seen conflicting accounts.

Hi:

Yes, making sure you have manually disconnected from the web is one that can be forgotten. Another is if your Bluetooth is running in the background, especially if it is not connected and constantly looking for a connection.

You also mentioned you check email every hour or so? Is your email set to poll on a schedule automatically? Any more often than every fifteen minutes can negatively affect the battery life too.

Finally, do you have a texting program running in the background? That can also nibble away at the available power.

I disconnect by switching to a different app, before exiting. Is there another way? No Bluetooth connection set up, at all, at this point. I can imagine the battery life would be even worse with bluetooth enabled.

I check it manually, every hour, or so. I didn't want to set it to automatically poll, until I was certain that all my other setting were correct. It looks like I won't be setting to do that, anyway, if I want the battery to last more than a couple of hours.

The only texting program that's sometimes running is the built-in one. And, I make sure I switch out of it, before exiting. Is there some other way I should be doing it?

Thanks,
Chris

So you have only had the device a week or how long? The behavior you are describing is how my 650 was acting after it was just about three years old.

You may have gotten a bad battery I suppose. If the Treo is under warranty, I would be heading to my retailer. I hope it is under warranty.

I have only had it for about a week, so I'm thinking I need to go back to the retailer and see what can be done. I just wanted to make sure that what I was observing was not *normal* behavior, or that I was not doing something wrong.

Thanks to all who have answered.
