| 755p....stuck I have had a treo 755p for sprint for a couple months and I love it...I just need to figure out 2 things that will really make my phone work for me....
1. Is there anyway to have the email come instantly with out having to go online for it similar to blackberry?
2. How can I get my Mp3 songs on there to utilize my treo as an mp3 player....
Please I have been struggling with both of these for a while...are they even possible? |

| Well if your email service offers IMAP, you can buy and install ChatterEmail which does offer true Push email, which will leave it online with your email service at all times. You can also set up a sleep schedule so it sleeps and is offline during certain evening hours.
As for listening to .mp3s, you really need to buy a miniSD card and I highly suggest getting a miniSD card reader. Then you just insert the card into the card reader, plug the reader into the USB port of your computer and then you find the .mp3 tunes stored on your computer and drag and drop them from the Music folder onto the card (an explorer screen will open up when you plug in the card reader) Very easy. Then when you are done, insert the miniSD back into the treo and when you open Pocket Tunes, it should find all of your music.

| Thank you, i have the card I will buy the card reader and do it that way. So for the mail, does that mean my phone is technically connected to the internet all day? does that interfere with calls/texts or drain the battery? |

| Hi
I use a couple of programs that go out and check POP email on a regular bases. I use Snapper to check a bunch of accounts every 2 hours. It is not working in true background as it waits until the palm is not in use before checking mail. It has also not been updated lately. I use versamail to check my weather mailbox every 15 minutes (in the summer) as it alows different email accounts to be checked at different intervals.
Hope this helps.

| A bit further on all of the above. A card reader, in one form or another is really handy. You can have a "physical" card reader like Dollface has mentioned or you can use a "software" card reader.
Physical is handy cause it is faster. The con side is that the removal/insertion of the card into the device can over time cause a breakdown on the device or wear/tear to the card itself.
The software type is slower and uses either a USB cable (again this causes wear/tear to the device) or you can use Bluetooth. Bluetooth is a tad bit slower, but in terms of convenience, it is an option to look at.
There are bunches and bunches of software applications that handle this function. Card Reader (works really well with Bluetooth or USB - further on this in a moment) and there is BlueFiles (Bluefiles works only with Bluetooth) and there are just others out there waiting for you to play with.
I have 2 17" laptops, an Acer and a Gateway. I purchased the Acer shortly after Vista came out and except for one nagging problem, it has been an excellent computer. The problem: USB, specifically, adding devices to it was erratic and at times very frustrating. My wife's Mac installed everything immediately, the Acer would just do nothing and might eventually install the device (printer/scanner, et cetera) or just not install it at all. However, when it came to Bluetooth, the Acer excelled and was a breeze to use.
Last week, in need of scanning at a very high resolution, the scanner decided not to run and after some playing, I decided to replace the laptop. The laptop home, 24 hours later EVERYTHING installed and up and running. USB on the Gateway is excellent; however, Bluetooth is totally different.
I am able to use a Kingsington Bluetooth dongle with the Acer and grew use to its interface, especially the Bluetooth Neighborhood feature. The Gateway though does not like to use the Bluetooth dongle, insisting on letting me disable its built-in Bluetooth radio, but not letting me use the Dongle (I need to play further). As a result, the 2 applications I use for Bluetooth transfers (card reader type programs) do not run under the Bluetooth mode. Card Reader runs under USB, Blue Files, well...
I can transfer files with the built-in Bluetooth function, but the ease of transfer I used on the Acer is just not there. So anyway, long story cut to an end, there are a number of ways to do it, though one just gotta remember is the wear and tear factor from card/cable use.
As for the mail thing, many mailers can be set to fetch at specified intervals and one can be set to just sit there quietly and work without a lot of interaction. They do not interfere with anything until a message comes in; however, if you do use IMAP PUSH, then the device must stay on line with a constant data connection, and that can cause a drain on the battery, especially in areas where the signal may not be very good.

| I now have my ChatterEmail set to retrieve mail every 12 minutes and at the end of my work day my battery is still at around 75%, when I had it set to Push (always online) my battery would be around 50% at the end of the day. On weekends, I take Chatter offline and if I want to check email, I do a Quicksync and needless to say the battery life is even longer that way.

| Many companies utilize Microsoft Exchange Servers. If you work for such a company and want to receive your e-mail on the device, your IT department will be able to give you the information to set your device up to receive on their Exchange Server. I use VersaMail for my companies Exchange Server and it works extremely well. If you have personal accounts you want to do this with, ChatterMail is the most popular option.

| Two questions:
1) Does Chattermail support Gmail? I could have sworn I saw that Gmail doesn't offer support for the client...
2) How do you change your update status (ie, how long between dling the new emails from the server) for Versamail? Or are you stuck with the default amount of time (whatever that is)?
Thanks! |

Thanks! | Yes, ChatterEmail works flawlessly with Gmail in either POP3 or IMAP mode. I personally use IMAP and if you click on create a new mailbox, you can scroll down and they now have a set up for Gmail IMAP, just click that and it inserts all the configuration stuff for you. After it is set up, click on Edit Mailbox and click Deliver at the top; go to the bottom of that page and checkmark OFFLINE. Next to that now you will notice a QSync every ____ mins; you merely insert whatever minutes you want in there. Like I said, I have mine Quicksync every 12 minutes and the drain on the battery is minimal.
