| Assigning tones to a group Is there a way to assign a ringtone to a group I created without doing each contact individually? I want to be able to do this for several groups cuz I know if I set default, all tones will be the same, but there is (obviously) only one default ringer that can be set. |

go to CONTACTS....then, at the very top....where you can select the different groups, drop down....select EDIT CATEGORIES.....you should now see your list of groups, highlight desired group, and tap EDIT...you should now see a EDIT CATEGORY window....here you can change the ringtone for a specific group.

| My suggestion - hang the default thing. Look at LightWav, CallBlock and RingCare. These applications make ringtone management a breeze.
LightWav gives you the kitch sink and is well supported.
CallBlock gives you MP3s for phone calls and also call blocking capabilities. Wang is working on MP3s for SMS.
RingCare gives you MP3s for phone calls and SMS and email.
My personal preference is CallBlock; however, due to an interaction problem between it and TakePhone due to my Sprint 700p getting MRd, (TakePhone is an application I just gotta have), I use RingCare.
Developer support for each of the applications is excellent.

| ok, so i have lightwav, but i don't know how to set it up so that groups have seperate ringtones. i tired getting rid of the default mp3 ringtone, and went into group profiles, and gave each group a seperate ringtone, but when i did that, i end up getting no ringtone. otherwise, when someone calls it just uses the default ringtone. help?
edit: damnit. i just realized this post is in the 755p forum. i have a 700p. i searched lightwav and this seemed to be the most relevant thread, but i didnt look at the forum it was in. hopefully someone can still help

I am now with CallBlock, but still having trouble with MP3 tones; CallBlock causes a crash. If I use a built-in tone, it is all good.

| So perhaps your Treo is choking on the mp3s themselves, and not the ringtone app?

I don't think so. The mp3's play with PocketTunes, and "test" fine in CallBlock. I was able to use Mp3's with Ringo, but had other functionality issues, and with mRing, couldn't adequately set up SMS tones for groups or individuals. I can't figure it out.
Sadly, the one program (though clunky) that I was able to run perfectly on the 650 for ringtone management was CallFilter. I loved it's ability to work with Profiles...

| CallFilter for the 600 was great, for the 650 I had, never got it to properly work and it is now abandonware, with Rob saying he will, but has not.
mRing I installed and it answered, never got it to fire the file to be played reliably. CallBlock and RingCare work well.
