I went into the bluetooth on the pc and looked made sure the treo is a trusted device. I double checked to see which com port the pc assigned to the treo. You need to look in setup in your hotsync manager to be sure the com ports are the same.
My last Treo 755 screen broke on me. So I got a new with my phone insurance and I've been trying to Hotsync my old files from the Palm Desktop app but it's not working. My Hotsync manager will not pull up and when I press the Hotsync button on my phone nothing happens. I get an error message saying "The selected port, COM3 (or COM9), is not available at this time. HotSync Manager will open the port when it becomes available."
I've tried everthing and I really need to sync my phone.
Can anybody please Help.

Hi:
Assuming you are running XP....
Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT)
At this point you should now see the list of ports available for your PC. If COM 3 (or 9) is listed, does it have a yellow question mark, red X or is it listed as associated with another program? Right click and select properties. Is it shown as disabled or with a problem?

Also, right click on the Hotsync incon on the system bar and make sure that Local USB is check marked.

Sorry I assumed bluetooth.....In your hotsync manager icon on your task bar click or right click and in setup I believe you can select the com port that is listed in your ports on the pc. Steves directions will get you to the port on the pc then check your hotsync manager
I use a mac now and I am sure Steve or dollface will have more info....if not I will get the laptop out and see the settings that I have in it.....you may have to match the name of the phone in hotsync on the device to your user name on the pc to sync your data too...once you get it to sync

I figured it out! You have to unistall the whole palm desktop software restart your computer and install it again. Dont worry al your files are backed up in the harddrive.
I did this and my Hotsync worked again like brand new. No more errors!
