Default Dismal battery life

My new 755P can't make it through the day with very light use, without draining the battery. At first I thought it was having email set to auto-sync "as messages arive", but after turning off auto-sync completely, the battery is still draining down like crazy, even when I don't use the phone.

One thing I saw - the "Power Vision" (EVDO?) connection seems to stay active all the time, once I do one email sync. I say this because under Preferences : Network, there is a "connect" button when it's connected, and a "disconnect" button when not connected. After disconnecting, and doing a sync in email, the "connect" button is there.

So - is that the cause of my battery drain - the fact that Power Vision is keeping the EVDO connection up all the time?

(I tried disabling BT, but that didn't seem to help much.)

- Dave

Any chance you setup the IM at some point? I have a 755p and have actually been pleased with the battery life. I check my mail every 15-20 minutes and use IM occasionally. Any chance you have the blue data icon up in the top right of your phone? That should tell you if EVDO is doing something.

I have a blue icon in the upper right corner, but I think it's Bluetooth (when I click it, it goes to the Bluetooth preferences screen).

So when you go to Preferences : Network, do you see the "Power Vision" screen? If so, does it say "Connect"? Mine says "Disconnect", implying to me that it's connected. If I disconnect, and then go to email and do a manual synch, then the Power Vision screen will say "Disconnect" again.

So, I think Power Vision is reconnecting when I do a manual synch, and it's staying connected - and that's what's draining my battery.

Default Battery drain

I am having the same problem with mine. I just bought the Sprint 755p. It arrived today. I noticed that the battery was draining very fast. If I had bluetooth turned on, I would get a 'Please wait' popup every few seconds which would freeze the phone. I turned off BT and it seemed to stop it. I still have yet to figure out why. I should be able to leave BT on even though it is NOT paired with anything.

I haven't totally resolved it but turning off the BT helped. We will see how it works tomorrow.

I just exchanged my 2 week old 755 for a new one, because of this. In a non-EVDO coverage area, the 755 would connect to Sprint's slower data network every 7 seconds...connect for 3 seconds, than disconnect and re-connect 7 seconds later. Not only was this killing the battery, but all incoming calls went directly to voicemail, when it was connecting to the data network.

I was on the phone with Sprint for 2 hours, re-programming, re-provisioning, etc. Finally, the rep told me to exchange the 755 for a new one.

So far, so good. If you want to check yours, in a non-EVDO coverage area, go to the phone screen, and watch the triangles above the signal strength icon. If they turn green, for a few seconds, then gray, then back to green, you may have the same problem.

--Very good info, thanks. My phone is doing the same exact thing, green...to gray...then back to green, are you in a non-EvDO area still now with the new phone?? If so, what are the triangles doing now? Are you still having battery problems>? What do I need to do if I call sprint, anything in particular I need to tell them?

Thanks in Advance!

I'll be in a non EVDO area this weekend, so I'll post what happens. If you call Sprint, call this number 877-851-1832, tier 2 tech service. After re-provisioning, and other tests, they will tell you to exchange the phone at a Sprint store. Make sure that you do a Hot Sync before you call them, as they will instruct you to do a hard reset.

My problem ended up being some files carried over from the backup of my Treo 650. After a few hard resets and strategic restores from my backup files, I was able to not overwrite any BT files. Now my phone is acting normally. However, the battery doesn't seem to last quite as long as my old Treo 650 battery, but certainly within normal params.

I also turned off automatic syncs for email. I have 5 email accounts and one is an exchange active sync account.
