Help
I got a Treo 755p about 65 days ago. I had to return the first one because of a problem I had with it freezing when I try to open text messages. I was continuously having to do a soft reset (6-7 times a day) and even did a hard reset. I now have the new phone (refurbished since that's all they send) and I am having the same problem. I've had the phone 8 days and have already done a hard reset and have done a soft reset at least 12 times. Verizon and Palm cannot figure it out. Has anyone else had this problem? It's real frustrating. It's not all text messages and it happens with text messsages from different people.

Hi:
Out of curiosity, did you sync the new phone to get your data into it when you received it?
I will assume yes, so what should be done is make sure your back-up to your PC is fresh and complete and perform a hard reset on the Treo to put it bach to fresh and clean with nothing but factory items on it. Use it as a phone for a couple of days before doing any kind of a sync.
It is very possible you may have corrupted data and syncing put that onto the new device causing it to crash as the old one did.
Once the phone operates with no crashes for a couple of days, then you should begin a selective restore to try to identify what contains the corrupted file, an email or attachment to an email, an SMS, a contact, etc.
If the new Treo began crashing right out of the box with no data or programs on it, that could be a problem and would be odd. Not impossible, but odd.
I hope this helps. Keep us posted....

Thanks, Steve. I have come to the conclusion that it is a problem with my data and have just done a hard reset. Unfortunately I am not able to back up or rename my old profile so I guess that I am going to lose my calendar, and contacts as I am not able to back up my old profile.

Wait, you didn't sync to your PC? What do you mean you don't have a backup?
Isn't that what you did with the new Treo, sync with the data from the failed unit and then the new one started crashing? If so, the original backup should still be on your PC. We just don't want you to do any sync until you check out the plain hardware for a couple of days as a phone to see if it crashes.
I'm confused....more than usual!

Steve, there was a problem with my profile so I had to create a new one. I back up at least once a day. I haven't put anything on the phone since I did the hard reset and the text messaging has not frozen since. However, the phone itself froze and I couldn't do anything, including another hard reset even with the battery being fully charged. I am waiting for my 3rd phone from Verizon now. I am technologically challenged and I was excited about the Treo because I already knew how to use the functions (being a long time Palm PDA user). Now I'm not so sure. I was told by the Verizon tech that it is hit and miss with the Treos. You either get a good one or they have problems. I am willing to give the phone another chance, hoping the the bugs will be worked out, but I have to say, I am not impressed.

Usually problems with the phones are with downloaded 3rd party apps that can cause conflicts or corrupt data.. You have hard reset the phone and are using it with no sync or third party apps right?
You said it froze up on you. What program were you using at the time? (details) Has it happened since the one freeze? Every once in a while electronics can or will lock up and a reset clears it up.
Another question are you talking to the 1st line tech or level two or three? The first line people can program your number and maybe find the bathroom. (not at the same time though)

Sorry to hear of the on-going problems. I thought the 755p was a lot more stable and a better overall experience. Did they send you a new in the box or a refurbished?
I am not sure what the code for Verizon devices is and I am not even sure that it still works in 755s, but in my Sprint 650 I was able to key in a code, *377* or maybe ##377 then dial and a popup window would display what was running when the crash occurred. While this wasn't finite because of programs interacting, it could be of help.
Plunker is quite correct that you need to get to higher level support personnel, tier II or tier III and if you do have to call again you should insist on that. When you get the new one you should check to see that the software is the most current available. I do belive Verizon has had their issues with software upgrades, but again I am not sure about the 755.
I hope that the third time is the charm for you.
Let us know how it progresses....

Plunker, thanks for the laugh. I am beyond the first line of techs at both Verizon and Palm. Since I did the hard reset and created a new user name, I have not had a problem with the phone freezing while reading my text messages. I have not put anything on the Treo - not even a game. Unfortunately it has now frozen completely. A soft reset didn't work either. They are sending me yet another refurbished Treo. If it doesn't work this time, Verizon will replace it with something else. I am going to have confidence that the 3rd time is the charm. I researched the Treos v. Blackberrys v. Motorola Q for a long time so I am assuming that this is just a small bump in the road.
