    Default Maps for Palm Treo

I am moving to California this summer and will be needing some help getting around. I have a 775P with NO data plan along with a laptop that will have access to the internet. What is the best way to get maps and directions on my phone? I would like to get some software such as Street Atlas or Microsoft Streets and Trips. Is this something that can sync with my phone? If not how do i go about getting maps and directions to hot sync?? thanks

No expertise in this area at all with any of the software products that you mention. However, if you have a scanner and a map, you can scan the area of the map you need, save the scan as a JPG and then use a device based software application such as Resco Viewer to look at it. Your laptop, you can do a screen save of the map being viewed, save it as a jpg file and then copy it to the device.

If you have a lap top, get microsoft streets and trips, not a bad program. Also, stop by walmart or better yet a truck stop and grab an Atlas... I find my way all over the country with just that.
All Avatar photos taken from the cab of a moving Freightliner Century Classic, my office if you will. Enjoy!

I must admit that I do carry a map book and have used it twice in three years. Ben

Have you ever tried Avantgo on your treo? You download it to your desktop and it creates a conduit for your hotsync program. You can now update your channels over the air on your treo, but since you don't have a data plan, you can just update your channel on your laptop, then do a hotsync. They offer Mapquest which should work for you. You just type in the address of where you want to go and it will make a map for you, and even give you directions to or from that spot.

    Favorite Google Maps

For those with a data plan:

Using the browser in your mobile, go to google.com then click "more" then on the Google map feature. Download it to your Treo and you will have the best map feature around.
It has a directions feature to go from A to B, provide satellite imagery like the desktop version, and also has the ability to be used as a 411 directory. Just do a search for a business in your city and Google maps will not only display the results, but also provide the business phone numbers (which you can download into your contact list) but also provide the link to their website if they have one.

Is that cool or what?

Google maps rock...I also use a free program with G maps called Tydra it is a better directory that the maps and actually opens up or works hand in hand with G maps.

Gotta have the data plan though. The other suggestions on syncing a map are good ones.
