Default Palm 755p newbie has some questions

    Hi,

I just bought a slightly used Palm 755p (sprint) a few days ago and so far I just love it. I've been playing with it and trying to get adjusted, but my learning curve is still far behind. I have a few questions:

    1. I believe my 755p came w/ Pocket Tunes v3.0.9 installed, there are 2 songs in there so far. I'd like to add more songs but can't figure out how to interface it w/ my computer when I run the Hotsync or Palm Deskop. Directions say a Pocket Tunes icon will appear on my computer, but this isn't the case, and I think since I did not install it then I cannot communicate with it.
Q: Do I need to purchase the Pocket Tunes program in order to get this to work correctly?
Q: Can I just transfer mp3 files into the MicroSD card and Pocket Tunes will automatically pick it up?

    2. I downloaded the Opera mini file from the 755p's web browser and it says it was saved to the card on my phone - but I cannot find this file. I opened the card and only shows 3 same files, but when I download it again it says "file already exists". Where is this file?

    3. The hot sync cable I received is not the original cable, it's a retractable 3rd party USB cable. There is no "hot sync button" as shown in diagrams. Is this an issue or will I be just find managing it manually through my computer?

    4. Where's the best place to find free 755p apps?

    Much appreciations!!

    Chris

#1 - speed transfer of large noise files is not the fastest thing. If you have a card reader, life is much faster.

#2 - Opera - are you sure you really wanna mess with it? I have opera'd for bunches of months a while back and frankly, it is not much to work with. Have you installed the Java environment yet? Watch your memory get smaller.

#3 - No button - then you initiate the sync on the device by brining up the Hot Sync application and taping the hot sync thing from there. Have you considered Bluetooth? Much more convenient than the cable.

I will let someone else mumble on the free apps.

Thanks for the help and response! I tried to install Opera through Palm Manager installer and it just sat there for a long time (almost like stand still) for at least 2 hrs, so I just canceled it and reboot my laptop. I hear good things about Opera, but if you think it's not worthy (due to memory hog) then I will stick with Treo's default browser.

I can't get bluetooth to work yet, I turn it on, my laptop has bluetooth, but my treo cannot see any devices. I don't get it - my initial thought was my laptop's bluetooth does not work. Do I need to put them right next to each other? I figured if they're w/in 1 foot they can see each other, but so far no success

Any feedback about Ptunes? What do you use to listen to songs?

    Thanks again!!

Listen to Ben, dump the Opera browser idea. It is not worth your aggravation. And I would suggest getting the program CardReader, it turns your 755 into an external memory device, so that you can just drag and drop big files like music and videos onto your memory card in the phone. It will show up when you hook your phone to your computer and activate the CardReader program on the phone. Lastly, buy a hotsync cable, they are not that expensive. check out equipment store on this website. Enjoy your new phone!
