| Treo 755 The latest rumor has Palm releasing a Garnet OS (the OS formerly known as Palm ) in the Treo 750/680 form factor, called the Treo 755. Rumors have it arriving anywhere from April to May. This could be the rumored "Sherlock" model that was being discussed. It's also supposed to be available in burgandy or blue. From what I'm seeing, outside of the form factor, the new feature will be native voice dialing. It will also come with IM included. I love the form factor and found the build quality of the Treo 750 to be superb, but not so sure that's enough to get most people excited.
Where is the rumored "secret" device that Jeff Hawkins is supposedly working on? Engadgetmobile posted a story about a rumored "ultra-thin" Palm device with WiMax support. They even put a major asterisk next to the story suggesting it was nothing more than pure conjecture, than a valid tipster. |

| It is interesting though. I am not interested in a device that is slimmer with a decrease in battery life. Voice dialing would be nice, but not that important for me; I never found voice dialing to be that accurate. IM? I have Mundu installed and rarely use it. Ben

| *sigh* What about those of us that don't like the color schemes? C'mon Palm, give us the retro-geek gray and silver. Some of us like our tech toys to look techie...

| These model numbers that they come up with just kill me . . 700P, 700W 680, 750 and now 755? So its just 5 digits better than WM 750? And I agree with Kreth on colors . . . To me, its either Gray or White if this self described tech-(no) geek is going to go for it! If battery life is anything like the 680, I am telling you 650/700 guys, the grass ain't greener, it just fits in your pocket better . . . Trouble is, its never in your pocket! Its on the charger!

| I agree with a lot of what you are saying - plain old color that I have now - gray or whatever it is, I sure do not want it slimmer, battery life is very important to me and as being in the pocket - NEVER! It is in the hand or horizontal belt case. It really looks that this upgrade will not be something I am looking at.

| To elaborate on my own rant, I really think that the Treo is generating consumer confusion more than anything with how they choose to name their products. For example, its really easy to know what your looking at with the 700's. Either a "W" model or a "P" model. We all know what those mean. But then you have a 680. With no P or W after it. Then, you have the 750 with no distinction. Now the rumored 755 which should be given (at least to me) a "P" designation but it doesn't. I would love to see some consistancy between WM and POS Treo products like I thought would be the trend at the 700's.

| I agree there is confusion with the Palm OS Treo's. Would be nice to have some consistency.
But regardless of that, I am anxious to see what the rumored 755p has to offer. I don't want to give up battery life, but I may be flexible a little if Bluetooth is any better than the 650/700p models.

| ChillyWilly, FWIW, BlueTooth is much improved on my 680. HeadSets that were basically non-functional with my 650 work GREAT on the 680. For example:
Moto H-500
Plantronics 320 I believe . .

| Another issue with Palm's naming and feature conventions is a variation between GSM and CDMA models, havent these guys heard of modular design? Wouldnt it be nice if you could carry your treo in to any Cell company & have a tech open up the thnig and just change the radio module if necessary? (yeah, I know, a thousand security reasons why that wont happen) I love PalmOS and am thrilled with my Treo, but hit or miss model debuts every 6 months doesnt sound like a good business model. |

| I agree with the assessment that Palm is causing confusion among consumers with their naming conventions. Let's not discount the Windows vs Palm OS debate. I'd venture to say there are more than a few consumers who don't know there is a choice until they find themselves at store. Old Palm vets and Windows Mobile fans waiting for the Treo form factor are one thing, but there is a large market of consumers who are first time smartphone owners. In Palm's defense, I think it was a smart move to offer a Windows Mobile product. That being said, the Verizon packaging is identical and the phones are basically identical. So, now let's add the 700wx to the mix to cause just a bit more confusion. Palm has to rely on the customer service reps to provide customers with information to base their selection.
As far as the 755 goes, I welcome the form factor over my Treo 700p, but I don't feel these incremental improvements are enough to excite people. If battery life is sufficient, I could see it as a nice upgrade from the Treo 650. If it were priced agressively (and I doubt it will be), then I'd get excited. Until then, it appears nothing more than a slow-drip of incremental upgrades. Even without the rumor mill, anyone could have guessed this one. |
