Default Unable to Sync with Vista/Outlook 2007

I searched the forum but couldn't find an answer, if there is one posted somewhere, please just point me to it.

I believe I have followed the instructions carefully.

    - I installed the PalmDesktopWin62 application and selected to synchronize with Outlook.

    - Tried to sync, the computer immediately found the Treo, and the sync process proceded through all 12 default steps.

    - Then I got a message that the sync process was completed with errors.

    - Checked the log and saw that *all* parts of the sync (Address Book, Calenda, etc.) failed to sync with Outlook.

    - I checked on the web and found that I needed to download and instal PalmOutlook2007Counduits.ZIP. I downloaded, unzipped and installed that sucessfully.

    - Tried to sync again. The process goes through all 12 sync steps, and I still get the message that it completed with errors. I check the log. All sync processes with Outlook failed.

    What am I doing wrong?

Outlook locks up the database, and the hotsync can't access it. So for all hotsync operations I have to shut down the Outlook program, and it usually works.

I say usually. On occasion I have to reboot the computer if the hotsync fails after shutting down Outlook.

    Good luck,
    Al

So pretty much useless,... One of the reasons I got the 755P was it's rumored ability to easily sync with Outlook, but...

I tried shutting down outlook, and rebooting the computer. Same results. Oh well...

Thanks for responding. At least now I know I'm not the only one with problems.

Actually, I am not having problems with the sync right now. Have never experienced what you are going through. Have had sync problems but managed to work through it.

OK, that was the first obvious question. Lets get into some diagnostic questions ...

When you sync, does it seem to hang on the Outlook tasks? Or does it jump to the next sync task quickly? You can click on "Details" to see what is being sync'd

Does your sync error say anything else about it other than there was an error? An error number, or anything like that?

I wonder if it is a firewall or windows defender issue? Have you tried shutting those down? Maybe check your firewall permissions and see if it is denying anything to the hotsync program.

Those are the next obvious questions.

Hang in there. It really is a great phone and worth the effort.

I am far from an expert so if any others reading this thread have anything to add then please jump in.

While poking around I see specific carrier packaged software may have some specific issues. So more questions so that I am on the same page ...
    - what carrier are you with?
    - are you syncing via the cable or on bluetooth?

Also ... I gather this is a new phone for you. So going to give you some Palm support (help) links ...

    Main Support / Troublehsooting Website:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/index.html
Click all devices, then Treo, then 755p. Then select your carrier. Mine is Telus, so if you don't see the next things I will describe then go back and try Telus, but use yours for now.

OK, now you should see one topic called " HotSync troubleshooting: Start here". Follow through the steps it will take you through and see where that takes you. You will probably end up in section 3 if I read your description of the problem correctly.

And here is the forum that Palm provides:
    http://forums.palm.com/palm/
They have an entire section dedicated to sync problems, and there are a lot of posts. Maybe you can sift through it and find something there that will help you.

    Chris,

did you get anything to work? I have the same exact problem that you do. It is driving me crazy. I believe that I've tried everything that I've seen on every website that I know of.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

I have no problems at all with Outlook/Vista and my 755P. I have had it for a year. My carrier is Verizon. When I have had any issue Verizon and or Palm's support groups have been very helpful.
