Default upgrading to the 755p

Finally upgrading from my 650 to the 755p. I have backup buddy (basic to card) and use missing sync on a mac. I also sync to a windows pc with cable.
I believe I just need to pair the mac and the new treo and it will load all of my data and programs on the new treo.

On the pc If I understand this I need to delete my palm desktop and install the new cd with palm desktop. My data can be synced with treo overwriting palm desktop/outllook.

Is this the easiest way or have I missed something?

I believe the 755p use a different card size not sure mini or mirco. I will get a larger one since I have experienced how quickly the 1g card fills up.

well congratulations Plunker, I am very happy for you. Yes, the 755 uses a miniSD card, but if you have a multi card reader or use the program Card Reader that is of no concern, you just need to buy a new card for the 755.

Secondly, on the PC you do NOT uninstall Palm Desktop but merely install the new desktop from the CD over top of it. It will keep all the info for the previous conduits and usernames in the new desktop.

Next, since you are upgrading from one model to another, on your first hotsync you should only allow the contacts and calendar to sync to the 755. Before you do your first hotsync, find your Backup folder in the Palm folder and rename it so it does not sync. Then do a clean install one at a time of your programs onto the 755. This will avoid any program incompatibility and issues later, and you get to be sure you are installing the most recent versions.

Good luck, and enjoy that new Treo.

You mean rename the backup folder and then let it sync one program at a time???

I am tempted to just copy backup buddy from my sd card to the mini card and run it. No I'm not. Syncing with two computers can cause all sorts of stuff so I am going to do it by the book.

Have you installed the update to your phone? I probably will do that before I install all my stuff on it.

No, what I meant is to rename the Backup folder so that it does not sync the info inside of it to your 755. You really do not want to use any backup program or hotsync to back up material from a different treo model - you'll be crying soon for sure! Just install that new desktop program from the CD over the existing one, rename the backup folder in the Palm folder, then when you do your first hotsync it will say "Why Plunker you finally busted a move and bought a 755! Do you want to use an existing username or create a new one??" You choose to use the existing username, then it will ask you if you want to sync just your calendar and contacts or everything, and you choose to just sync the calendar/contacts; you also get to choose whether you want to sync those with Outlook or the Palm Desktop. that is your choice here, I personally sync with Outlook. Then after that hotsynd is done, you want to find all of your 3rd party programs and check with where you bought them to be sure you have the most recent version and install it, one at a time, through the Quick Install program.

And, no, I have not installed the update to my phone. I make it a rule not to do updates that are not specific about what it is doing to my phone.

Thanks for the directions and that is probably the way I will go to sync. I do use missing sync at home and may sync the phone there first to get my stuff on it. I am thinking of text messages etc.... missing sync lets you sync and view everything. I can't remember with palm desktop will it save your texts?

I will wait on the update too. I need to be sure the phone works great before I start updating. I have a seven day return window but I will get insurance (at least a couple of months) to cover any major problems.
