Researching a Treo for the Mrs. She is a long time Palm user, but now wants to merge her phone and PDA. Looks like the 755 is perfect. She doesn't plan to use it for email or data access really. Mainly wants to sync her outlook calendar and contacts. Just spoke to a Verizon rep. They made it sound like I could ONLY sync with Outlook using the wireless sync option... And I needed the $44 per mo unlimited data access plan to do it. That change the economics quite a bit. I was hoping to get out of this without a data plan. The rep said I could add a tethered option at $10-$15 a month. Any Verizon customers out there know the scoop? If I need a data plan to sync it is a deal breaker. If that is true, is ATT any better on this front?
It sounds like she wants to use it as a phone and a PDA and for that you shouldn't need to get a data plan. I am not with Verizon so I don't know their plans and requirements.
You should also be able to sync the device with your PC using the data cable that comes with it. I also believe that it will sync with Outlook without a data connection as Palm devices have for many years. You may have to adjust the conduits to be sure you aren't syncing mail when you don't use it.
I suppose the big question would be that if you don't have a data plan and she makes an error and tries to download mail or connect to the internet, will you be hit for usage charges or will it just not connect?
I am sure others will add facts to my guesswork.

Yes, thanks. I know the usage charges we would be hit with if she hits the web accidently. My main concern is if Verizon has disabled wired sync or not. The way the rep explained it sounded like I could not do wired sync. That would break the deal fro me. I have seen Verizon disable features like this before in order to force you to buy a service. They did it with motorola ringtones. The made it so you couldn't use the motorola application to load ringtones yourself via a usb connection.
Any Verizon customers doing wired (usb) Outlook sync with this device?
You can do a wired sync. By default, Verizon's wireless sync disables other sync apps, but it's just a matter of checking a box in the app settings to get wired hotsync working.
