I hate to say this family, but this will be my last post on Everything Treo. To give you a little info on my dedication to PALM and Treo I will tell you this. I have been a Treo owner since the Treo 600 and have been extremely satisfied. I have owned the 650, 700p and finally the 700wx. And not matter how many times my treo has bricked up and crashed I stuck with my Treo. But today I was given a replacement Treo at my neighborhood Sprint store.. The Treo 800w. And let me say I was extremely disappointed several things:

    1) The size in width and Height. The 800w was built for women hands, not grown men. I cant email or text correctly because my MAN fingers hit 2 or 3 buttons at a time

    2) The screen size is horrific compared to past Treo's. Palm has put a great operating system on the phone that contains a buttload of features and software. But my eyes almost swelled shut trying to read news updates, email and text messages on that "BABY" screen. i mean you can only view / read but so much at a time on the 800w. It also makes it impossible to read your calendar on the today screen, God forbid if you have more than one appointment in a day.

    3) I dont understand why the Treo 800w have the same sync, charging port as all the others. I mean I still use the original charger on my Treo 700wx as I did on my Treo 650. Because of this unhelpful change, You have to go buy another car charger and holster for the phone (By The Way, a pretty slick marketing Tool for Sprint).

    4) Now I know everyone loves the fact that you can use 4GB and 8GB memory cards on the 800w, but why not make the memory slot as Micro SD slot instead of a Mini. I say this because most desktop computers cant read a 4GB or 8GB card which leaves the dedicated ones to spend some more hard earn dollars on a card Reader. And why a WIFI button on my phone. For Sprint customers we have a great, cheap data plan so WIFI is almost not needed.

    5) And for my final point... THE OUTRAGEOUS PRICE. I cant understand for the world, Palm can reduce so many physical features that differ in size, width and gerth from the 650 and 750 form factor to an "Teenager Size Centro" and still want over $500.

After playing with the 800w for about 6 hours, I hustled back to the Sprint store and swapped my 800 for th HTC Mogul. And I must say i really am loving it.

So Good luck to all my brothers and sisters in Treo world. Holla atcha on the flip side.

I am just waiting for my contract to be up and I will change away from Treo as well. I think Palm is going down hill. I don't know if I will be able to find what I really like or not but I think it is time to look at something else.
Treo 700p (Sprint) 2GB SD card; Palm Centro (Sprint) 4GB Micro SD card
Software I like: 4cast, Autofile, Bejeweled2, CallRec, Destaller, EasyNotes, GoogHelper, GoogleMaps, HealthFile, PdaNet, PdaReach, RscBackup, SplashID, SplashShopper, Tryda.

and I hated my Mogul something fierce. Your post has a few glaring errors, but being unhappy, it is just as well to go to a different device. Some of what you write about is due to the device being new. Incidentally, I have a co-worker with very big hands and he has no problems using his 800W. Also, technology changes - the current setup is a little more rugged than the previous connections used.

All I am saying is if I have to pay over $600 for a PDA/phone, then thats what I expect. The 800w is way smaller compaired to past Treo's. Windows Mobile 6.1 is an "OUTSTANDING" operating system but it is doesnt sit well with me on the 800w's little screen. I updated my new Mogul to WM 6.1 yesturday and with the large screen and resolution, I am very happy. It hurts me to leave my Treo but I gotta take care of my eyesight and fingers:laugh3:

Then you bought without forethought - often done. I also take it you are aware of the settings for font size?

Also, there are plenty of deals to be had. I myself got my 800w for 149.99. I can't even get a 700 on ebay for that price. I purchased my 650 for 100 only a year ago, so for that kind of upgrade, I'm stoked.

This is a case of purchase without serious consideration of the options/capabilities.

Funny, the screen is the same physical size as his 700wx I believe. At least it's exactly like the 700p, because I have to carry a 700p from Verizon for work, and I bought a 3 pack of their screen protectors which fit perfectly on my 800w.

This is my second WinMo phone. My first was last year with the Mogul. I liked the Mogul, for about two weeks, and finally got tired of the lags, slow screen rotation when opening the keyboard, and quite honestly, opening the keyboard. I went to the Centro after that and loved it, still have it. However, I changed to the 800w due to the GPS mainly, and I am loving it. WinMo 6.1 is superb, and Palm has tweaked it along with plenty of hardware power, that there is no lag on my device.

As for the form factor, this is why I've stuck with Palm: the on the front full qwerty keyboard. Other than just adequate battery life, this is a nearly flawless device, IMHO.

I agree - it has some quirks, but being a new device, those are irritants rather than real problems.

I been a Palm user for some time as well and I do not understand why Palm keeps trying to add windows based software for these handsets.. The handsets are not built for Windows sorry. The technology just can't keep up with the build of the handset it just does not work. Its like putting windows on a MAC.. no leave MAC operating systems alone.

I don't know how many have had experience with Blackberry's but I would not imagine them putting a Windows operating system on a BB it just won't work. I went from the 650 to the 700wx to the Centrino now on the BB 8830 World Edition had and Instinct too - this was a waste of money! Somethings need to be left to the persons who created them!

Anyhoo I hope to go back to a Treo at some point but certainly not a 800w!

    Thanks for the insight guys!
