Default Random silence on 800W

I hope someone can help.. I have a problem on my Sprint Treo 800W where the sound randomly goes silent.. what I mean is that a call will come in and it shows on the screen but there is no sound. Also when this happens, none of the system sounds work such as when I press a key it is supposed to make a click sound. Also sometimes when my alarms go off, there is NO sound... Also going into SOUNDS AND NOTIFICATIONS will sometimes make the round spinning cursor and not let me in until I force quit and then go back in. I can get the sound back by going into a program that will play a sound and let it play and the sound is back (I can also soft reset to do this).

I know I can probably HARD RESET and reinstall my software. BUT I want to try to avoid this because I have too much software and tweeks on my phone which would take hours and hours to fix...

any help would be appreciated.... Dave ...

Not a problem on the 3 800W devices I had. However, PhoneAlarm caused a burp on my first 800W with erratic tones and upon uninstalling/resetting the device, life was good.

I really do not believe it is a hardware problem - more like something you have installed. I suggest looking at recent installs and going from there - after a complete backup though.

If that does not take care of it, a hard reset and then play time.

Also, a note about backing a device up and restoring. If you back up a sick device and then restore the unsick device with the backup made when the device was sick, the device becomes sick again. A never ending battle.

The best thing to do when restoring from a sick backup is to restore only the non-sick items and that can be tricky to work around with, especially in the WM world. Normally you would restore only the PIM files.

Good luck.

Default Same Issue

My wife is having the same issue with her 800W. when every the screen goes blank (sleep) she is unable to recover it by the end button like normal, instead she flips the switch on top (ring-silence) then it would come back on but no sound from ringer or windows media player etc.... I did a hard reboot but same thing.

I am thinking it is not software related. Calling Palm tomorrow to find out more about it. Still have the one year warranty.
