Sending Email on 800?
Hi,
Recently (last week) jumped from a 650 to the 800w. First, quite a difference. I like it so far, still learning alot, since about the only thing the 650 had was bluetooth (gotta say, I did like Chatteremail though!).
After setting up up emails, both a gmail and a military AKO account, I find that I can only retreive emails, both via IMAP setup. I have deleted all accounts numerous times, tried rekeying the password (a chattertrick), but nothing seems to work. Has anyone had any luck getting Gmail on the phone working, or any military users out there?
Thanks

There is SEVEN which some say is great, though from what I read it is a pass-through system. Pocket Outlook is trash. Your Gmail settings - not too tough on that, I have it going with Pocket Outtrash and FlexMail. Which application are you using?
I also agree with you about ChatterEmail - it is by far the best in the world of tiny things.
Honolulu - 2,500 miles west of somewhere in the middle of nowhere, the land of Shakes. Kyoceria 6135, Treo 300, 600, 650, 700p, 700w, Centro & 800W, Touch Pro plus 3 other WM phones...

I am not using anything besides Outlook that came standard with the the phone. I guess I should have known better (Versamail was terrible too!). I will try Flexmail this evening. I'll post the results. Thanks again.

thanks for the advice benjie. I tried Flexmail, and now I have GMail working. Not sure I care for the usability on it, but at this point, I'm glad it works. I was getting close to returning for something else. Now, my other account AKO, is not even receiving email. Not sure what's up. I've got more problems, but I'm working on email first, then I'll get to tethering. Any other advice?

Pocket Outlook is just plain horrible. I ran Flexmail today with my Everyone.net account and GMail accounts active and it did well. The Everyone.net email setup was giving me problem, but that got taken care of. With the problem account, the problem is probably a security setting - compare what you have on your desktop to the handheld and see what happens. Tethering - there are a bunch of options. For the quicket setup, take a look at PDANet from JuneFrabrics.com.

I think with the AKO account, it is a server problem. I am having problems accessing the servers from my outlook account as well. Settings are the same on both though. As far as tethering goes, was trying for the cheap "free" approach, seeing if it worked out of the box. Perish the thought. I tried PDANET with my 650, all it did was crash my computer every time I started it....quite a pain. I'll work on it and let you know. Thanks again.

Your problem was not with PDANet, it was with the 650. PDANet is very stable on the Centro and WM devices. I like the idea of an easy configuration and use, and that is exactly what it delivers.
As for email, I am not interested in using a re-direct solution and have been looking at various email applications. So far FlexMail has been working fine. GMail takes a bit of time to initially sync, but Everyone.net is immediate.

SAME HERE!!! With Gmail and other personal accts, every once in awhile a Sent mail will go. 29 times out of 30, it locks. It doesn't work and Sprint Tech Support doesn't believe me. They are trying to say it is my settings or the network coverage. This is a massive issue and it is definitely software/phone/network related.
I used a 650 with VM and it always worked. I switched to a Samsung Instinct for about 5 weeks, and that worked. This simply will not send mail from my primary work account.
I tried Flexmail and had the same results.
FWIW, I think SSL accounts work better than those without SSL.

Flexmail seems to have done the trick. Try taking off the Push option in Flex Mail, that seemed to make things go a bit smoother. When GMAIL locks up, it makes the other accounts wait for it, and that kind of messes up the timing. Good luck. Also, I am using Gmail over secure, using 993 for the incoming server port and 465 for the outgoing. Then over SSL2 and TLS both checked under incoming and outgoing. See if this works for you.
Benjie, did you figure out how to get the Inbox on the today screen to show Flexmail, rather than the Outlook email?

I already uninstalled Flexmail. It is the same results. I am convinced it isn't the mail client.
Also, once an email fails to send, it will never send. It locks the system and every account on it. you can receive, but not send. For me, I actually need to delete/add the acct again. It will then send an email, after the connection is established. However, if you try to send and there is no connection, you are cooked. It fails on No connection, tries to connect, succeeds, but then the outbox won't empty. It is a bug.
