Are you using version 6.5? I was still using the version that came with my 750 with v 5 of WM. It was giving me a good backup with two files not able to be backed up I switched to the newest version 6.5.02 and no problems with backup error messages gone. But occasionally when I try to dial I get the wm6.0 phone app with a message the phone is off do I want to turn it on and then that goes away and I get the treo dial page. Kinda strange.

Hello! I just switched from a MotoQ 9c to the 800w and so far I'm not really satisfied. On top of the HORRIBLE battery life, the 160-character text messaging limit was also one of my biggest disappointments. I tried following your instructions to edit the registry below, but when I saved the PHM Registry File to my phone and tapped it, I got an error message that said: "There is no application associated with 'PHMRegEdit'. Run the application first, then open this file from within the application." Will you help me figure out what I'm doing wrong, please. Thanks in advance for your help!

Also, somewhere along the way when I was trying to run the PHM Registry File when my phone was connected to my computer... it prompted me to delete my Instant Messenger application, which I thought I opted out of. Luckily, the IM application is still there, but it took it off my Today Screen list... and now it doesn't even allow me to add it back to it when I go into the Today Screen settings. PLEASE HELP!

In the free world, http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit/ is an excellent product, PHM Registry Editor, .70 is the release.

In the pay world, MemMaid, SKTools and bunches of others. I also use MemMaid. To edit the registry though, I use PHM Registry Editor.

The first step: back the device up. After backing the device, copy the PHM Registry Editor CAB file to your device. It makes no difference if it lands in main memory or the card. I copy everything initially to the card and install most applications to the card.

After copying the CAB card to the device/card, you use File Explorer to find the CAB file and then tap the file - that will begin the installation process. You will be prompted to install to the device or the card - again, I use the card. After installing the application, you are then able to delete the CAB file.

Accessing the file is done via the Start menu. Once you find it, tap it and the application runs. The application should start with the menu collapsed, My Device and 4 HKEY entries displayed. Choose "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" to begin with.

    HKLM\software\palm\varnish\messaging\sms

You are looking for the above, so tap the "plus" box on the left, look for Software, tap the plus to the left, look for Palm, tap the plus to the left. Look for Varanish and tap the plus to the left. Then look for Messaging and tap the plus to the left. Look for SMS. It should open up automagically. If not, then press the down arrow on the bottom of the screen to open up the registry option list.

Look for MaxPartsPerMsg, tap that entry and in the value data field, enter 10 and make sure the "Decimal" option is selected underneath it. Then tap OK. Give it a test. If it works, then life is great. If it does not work, either go back and give it another try, test it, and if no go, change it back to 1 or execute a hard reset and restore the device.

However, based upon my play time, it works and if it does work, then back the device up to save those changes in a permanent back up file.

First, the battery life - this is a very well publicized complaint - look at Seido's 2600ma battery - it works very well. After a short period of time, my standard battery was hitting around 6 hours of so of decent use.

Anyway, I could not get the application to provide the error you mention. When I save the registry, I get no such error. Taping the file will not start its related application, it has to be done from within the registry application.

The IM application - is the short cut still there? Uninstalling, resetting and then reinstalling the IM should make it available again in the Today screen. An application similar to MemMaid has functionality built in to it to display all of the Today plug-ins.

THANKS! I figured it out! I had to do a google search and actually find the .CAB file to ActiveSync over to my phone, which wasn't what I had at first. I was able to modify the settings, and everything works fine now. I can type more than 160 characters a message... :laugh3: YESSSS!!! lol
