    No. That is why it is called SMS (Short Messaging Service).

    Some carriers automatically split long messages into two and three separate messages, but most do not. Check with your provider to see if that is offered, but it sounds like they don't.

    So I didn't give the answer you wanted so there must still be a way?

    Did you check with your service provider as I suggested? If their system limits it to 160 characters, you will not be able to change it.

    Here is a summary from How Stuff Works. Interesting that it is just about what I said:
    Why 160 Characters?SMS was designed to deliver short bursts of data such as numerical pages. To avoid overloading the system with more than the standard forward-and-response operation, the inventors of SMS agreed on a 160-character maximum message size.
    But the 160-character limit is not absolute. Length limitations may vary depending on the network, phone model and wireless carrier. Some phones don't allow you to keep typing once the 160-character limit is reached. You must send your message before continuing. However, some services will automatically break any message you send into chunks of 160 characters or less. So, you can type and send a long message, but it will be delivered as several messages.

    Here is a Palm article discussing the limit too, but you keep looking....

    There may just be a third-party program available. Try a Google search.

    On the 800W there is a registry setting that controls this function. Works like a champ. I did this change day 1.5 of use.

    HKLM\software\palm\varnish\messaging\sms
    MaxCharsPerMsg=160 <<< -- changing MaxCharsPerMsg will work, but it will show
    the number of messages incorrectly
    MaxPartsPerMsg=1 <<<------ change this to 10
    MaxRecipients=10
    GetNumCharsPerMessageSMS=160

    Alter MaxPartsPerMsg to 10 (from 1) and it will allow you 10 messages (1600 total characters).
    Honolulu - 2,500 miles west of somewhere in the middle of nowhere, the land of Shakes. Kyoceria 6135, Treo 300, 600, 650, 700p, 700w, Centro & 800W, Touch Pro plus 3 other WM phones...

    A registry editor is needed and there are bunches of them. From pay to free, they all do the same basic thing, allow you to edit the registry.

    In the free world, http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit/ is an excellent product, PHM Registry Editor, .70 is the release.

    In the pay world, MemMaid, SKTools and bunches of others. I also use MemMaid. To edit the registry though, I use PHM Registry Editor.

    The first step: back the device up. After backing the device, copy the PHM Registry Editor CAB file to your device. It makes no difference if it lands in main memory or the card. I copy everything initially to the card and install most applications to the card.

    After copying the CAB card to the device/card, you use File Explorer to find the CAB file and then tap the file - that will begin the installation process. You will be prompted to install to the device or the card - again, I use the card. After installing the application, you are then able to delete the CAB file.

    Accessing the file is done via the Start menu. Once you find it, tap it and the application runs. The application should start with the menu collapsed, My Device and 4 HKEY entries displayed. Choose "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" to begin with.

    HKLM\software\palm\varnish\messaging\sms

    You are looking for the above, so tap the "plus" box on the left, look for Software, tap the plus to the left, look for Palm, tap the plus to the left. Look for Varanish and tap the plus to the left. Then look for Messaging and tap the plus to the left. Look for SMS. It should open up automagically. If not, then press the down arrow on the bottom of the screen to open up the registry option list.

    Look for MaxPartsPerMsg, tap that entry and in the value data field, enter 10 and make sure the "Decimal" option is selected underneath it. Then tap OK. Give it a test. If it works, then life is great. If it does not work, either go back and give it another try, test it, and if no go, change it back to 1 or execute a hard reset and restore the device.

    However, based upon my play time, it works and if it does work, then back the device up to save those changes in a permanent back up file.
