Treo 800 sometimes syncs, most times not....
hey guys, sometimes (had this treo for 3 weeks) my treo 800 will sync with my Vista Pc but most times not. i connected 3 days ago but not since.

i must be missin something....thanks FK

tonight i tried syncing again and still no luck. then a menu popped up saying Activesync need's the lastest version. so i found ver 4.5 and downloaded it. when i launched it, it says "Activesync could not modify Vista "!
geeeez, what the heck is going on with this.....??? i never had this much trouble syncing when i had a Windows mobile PDA back in 2002. and it had no phone or internet on it back then......arrrgh:frown:

Could this possibly mean you were not logged onto Vista as the Administrator? Either that or Admin permissions aren't set properly?
I don't use it so I can't help any more....

I have 2 Vista laptops and I found that downloading the "newest" ActiveSync in reality cannot modify the ActiveSync on it, so that message is just fine. Not a problem. Really.
Have you deleted ALL of the current relationships, executed a soft reset on the Treo and reset the desktop?
Of course, you have a good cable? The connections are good? To you have a Bluetooth enabled desktop/laptop? If so, Bluetooth works so much better, though it is slower.

What was the problem or settings changed?

sorry benjie, i was wasted last night and i posted my results twice and the reply didn't take here. anyway, let me try again.
1-i ended the partnership
2-pulled the battery off then back on(should've done a soft reset here?)
3-went to connect and got a connection error(said support code 0x80072EE2)
4-i googled "0x80072EE2" by itself.
5-found some hints somewhere(lost where---?)
6-went into activesync/menu and tapped USB connection
7-got a would you like to connect now?
8-i said yes and it took a few minutes but it connected.
9-then i went in my PC and formed another partnership and it was Synced
10-tonight i plugged it in again and synced right up.
not sure exactly what turned the corner but practice makes perfect apparently. probably:ending/restarting the partnership and resetting the battery were the key elements.

The partnership can be a problem whether Bluetooth or USB. I have had to redo the partnership twice so far due to stupidity on my part - messing with ports was my problem. The battery removal - a soft reset does the same in this instance. As a note, I am not a cable fan. Thanks for the update.
