Default Treo 800w Delayed Until Summer 08'

In case you haven't heard, Palm yesterday pretty much confirmed that the Treo 800w wouldn't be coming until the summer of 08'.

"Those products aren't coming out this quarter," said Colligan when asked about the release of new Treo smartphones during the upcoming fiscal quarter.

Cool! I didn't even know they were making a new one already. I guess I should have expected it, but, yeah.

I am a palm treo fan. And have been a user for the past three years. I recently decide to change my phone brand (I won’t mention to what brand [not a promoter] but I will mention why I am disappointed and changed from palm to another) for a few resons. One being the software. I am all for “if the tools work why complain?” but the Palm os is starting to look soo boring when compared to other phones. And I am NOT a Windows Mobil fan. Another reason is the phone is so chunky. Remember I have been carrying a treo for the past three years and I want a change. something not so fat and easier to carry around. I tried looking at the Centro. A lot smaller than the treo but about as fat. So I decided the “touch screen” was not worth it. That and Palm doesn’t seem to update the camera specs. So I changed and got something thinner. About the same size as the centro, just thinner, no touch screen, no windows mobil and 2.0 mega pixel camera w/ 5x zoom. I like it. I just wish PALM would get with the program and stop relying on Microsoft so much. I wish they update their software – I mean really change it and pretty it up a bit. And not to say the touch screen isn’t cool and I know palm is working and working on ways to make this device thinner and still keep the touch screen capabilities, but maybe they should start focusing on building a all around smaller phone. Centro would be just my type if it weren’t for the lack of imagination of the Palm OS / software and it’s thick size. Seeing this phone was suppose to be a huge change, I really don’t see much of a difference other than the lesser amount of hardware it takes to build the centro. It’s like they took a TREO and cut the sides. So I wouldn’t expect a “huge” change in the TREO 800w.:frown:

You never know, they may decide it's finally time to compete, size-wise, with Blackberry and it's much smaller line of phones. Still, I don't see it becoming Pearl-esque anytime soon.

I would think they'd have some specs up if it's coming out this summer...

Damn shame I just bought my 755p, but I'm loving it so far so in two years I'll see what Verizon has ;)

    Hi benjie:

Are these preorder sales or are they actually shipping today?

Not preorder at all. The person I spoke with stated they started selling them today and are actually shipping them. I was told mine should be here Friday (tomorrow) and that means it is being shipped from this island. I expect to receive the 8gb class 6 SanDisk card on Monday.

I was excited when I ordered the 600, happy when I ordered and stopped using the 650, satisfied when I ordered the 700p, happy with and still the Centro. Excited with the 800W; however, due to work and the family, I do not look to doing much for a couple of days. Home at around 7P or so, an hour doing the daily activity report and related stuff, updating spread sheets, dinner, a few minutes with the family - wow. If it were a Wednesday or Thursday...
