Need Help My SD Card has gone bad!

This is a first for me!
I got up yesterday morning listening to my Treo 650 going da-dump . . . . . . . . . . . . dump-da. The sound your Treo makes when you remove/insert your card or plug the device into power. I was hoping that if it was a hardware failure, that it was going to be the card and not the Treo. Like a big dummy, the first thing I did was a hard reset. When I got done, I went to access the card and it told me I didn't have a card inserted, yet I did!! I went and got an older 512 meg card out of a camera (the card that I used to use in my 650) and it not only recognized it, but after about an hour it hadn't just disconnected on its own, like the previous card was doing. During that time, I put the 2 gig card in two Cameras, and both said that the card needed formatting, but about half-way through the format process I would get errors. Getting either of my computers to read this card was impossible. This is a San Disk 2 gig card approximately 5 months old . . . I am now convinced that this card has gone bad. I know its rare, but it certainly has happened to me! Luckily for me, I have a few smaller cards laying around so it wasn't like I lost anything I did from a card, which is almost everything by the way . . . However, if I had been away from home, I would have not had access to hardly anything other than the phone itself . . . Removing the card didn't give me any acknowledge sound! And sticking it back in wouldn't guarantee that it would read it. And if it did, it usually would disconnect within 10 minutes . . . Sometimes it would reconnect on its own, but most of the time, it wouldn't. I thought documenting the symptoms might be worth it here on this forum. By the way, this particular card either came from BestBuy or Circuit City, I don't remember. It was not a card purchased on Ebay or over the net period. . .

My solution was to replace the card with another one. My wife picked up another San Disk 2 gigger for me yesterday at BestBuy for $44.00 +Tax . . . I also picked up a San Disk Ultra at Circuit City a couple of weeks ago for my Camera. After two $20.00 rebates, I will end up with $44.00 in it!!! I believe that the card that went bad came from BestBuy, but I am not sure. However, I have kept back the reciept on this one . . If it goes bad ANY time soon, I will be taking both back to them and have them pull my purchase records and see if they won't do something to stand behind what they sell . . I have had pretty good experience with BestBuy, but haven't really tested them outside of a warranty period . .

Trash happens, though I have twice seen error format messages and the card still work just fine. It's a good excuse though for an even higher capacity card.

Well, my deal there, was I already was using a 2 gigger, that failed . . However, there is much hope for the future. Read last week where pretech is going into production with an 8 gig SDHC card! That just totally amazes me that you can get 8 gigs of storage on something as small as an SD card . . . .

That's too bad. I'm curious what brand your card was? I guess it's hard to really find out since you can't access it anymore. I've found that Panasonic cards are great. I've got some Lexar cards that are Panasonic. Sandisk isn't great. And for some reason my Kingston card isn't recognized for some card readers, although it works on my card reader.

The card that went bad was a Sandisk. But the good news is, my 2 gig sandisk and my 2 gig sandisk ultra in my Camera are both functioning flawlessly!

No mini's on the Treos yet . . Regular old, plain Jane SD's are what all Treos are currently using . .

Default 4GB sd card for Treo650?

Has anyone been able to use a 4GB SD memory card with the Treo 650? Do you have to do anything to the Treo to get it to recognize the 4GB SD card?
