System Tools or Repair RMA the keyboard back - there is no solution

Hello. Sadly, the universal wireless infrared keyboard is quite a flop. If you sit idle for even as few as 5 seconds, then try to type, the first few characters you type are lost... this "Awakening from sleep" can't be explained. Think Outside denies it is the keyboard they manufacture for Palm. Palm denies it is their keyboard driver (even the latest 1.08 version has this problem). Palm denies it is their Treo 650 as well. Note that none of these problems existed back when Think Outside had their original Stowaway keyboards for pocket pc's and tungsten pda's. That original keyboard rocked! A dedicated connector for each type of pda or phone... REAL full sized keyboard with 5 rows. It just worked. So of course, Palm convinced ThinkOutside to stop making that for palms and instead go with infrared and (even worse) Bluetooth "universal" keyboards. Yepp. The Bluetooth keyboard works even worse than the infrared! There is no solution. Someone at Think Outside needs to do their homework and realize their original $90 Stowaway with dedicated mount unique to the smartphone or pda is the way they need to go... else they will go the way of 3Com and many others... and just fade away due to ignoring their customers. Sad. Very sad.

I just got my PalmOne Universal Wireless Keyboard 3169WW a couple of days ago and so far it has been working quite well for me. I use it for my Bible study and to journal. I have only used it on a table. Once I got it installed (took about 5 min) it worked like a charm. Got it for $24 shipped.

Now that I have had it for a while thought it might be helpful. Mainly use it on a table, a couple of times on my lap. For the most part it works really well for me. I can see if you are in a car, bus, train or something with bumps and turns it may not work as well. You do have to get use to where certain keys are at because it isn't like a typical keyboard. You can also use it to navigate around on your treo so your hands don't have to leave the keyboard. The batteries (2 AAA) last a long time. The feel of of the keys are like the keys on a laptop.

    Default $14.95 keyboard

This may be a dumb question to someone in the know, but can anyone tell me why the $14.95 Palm portable keyboard with plug-and-play interface (available in the Everything Treo Store) wouldn't work with a Treo 650. Is the plug different? System requirements are listed as Windows 98, NT4.0, 2000, ME, XP or Macintosh OS 9.1 or later. I would love to save the dough and it sounds like from this thread that the wireless infrared interface may have some problems. Thanks.

Don't know the cause, my best guess is the connector is different.

I think that most people that post only post when they have issues with the product. In reading several forums on keyboards found that there were a mix of responses. I have had mine for a month and I find it useful and havn't had much trouble with it. Then again it depends when/where you are using it, if in a car it may prove to not work as well. Every once in a while (happened twice) it won't detect the keyboard, to remedy it I do a soft reset. I got it for $10 more.

Default problem might be with dataviz

Well I was told that there is an emerging problem .... and they think the issue is with Dataviz. Try using your keyboard in the Memo feature and see if you have a problem with it working right. I am planning on calling Dataviz in the AM to see if it is there problem. Good luck and I will reply .... if I remember.

The problem can also be florescent light as that will interfer with infrared comminications. Make sure that you have the latest dirver 1.10 too.

    Default Wireless Keyboard

Is there any brand of wireless keyboard that will consistently work with the Treo 650? I have the PalmOne Universal Wireless Keyboard 3169WW and agree it is a FLOP.
Are there any reliable non-wireless models?

There are no other non-wireless ones. The latest driver update should work better for you, but all in all, for the most part (and every other euphemism not said) that is all there is to this show.
