Bluetooth Hot Sync with Mac issues - Page 2 - Treo Forums

thanks, checked the connection and it was checked already. How about the BT modem and internal modem connections, do they need to be enabled?...didn't seem so, but what do i know. Tried to sync again...still no connection. So, I've tried every suggestion so far and no go. I must say that BT sync has worked for me in the past. I think the problem started when I started using iSync to sync with Mac Address Book and iCal.
Still lovin' my Treo/Mac combo, nice to have addresses and calendar (previously separate in cellphone, palmpilot and computer) all synched in one place. And, never fear, my cable sync still works, so

I am having nearly the same set of symptoms as you! An intermittent start - I was syncing fine using BT and Mac 10.4.3 for several months. I can't remember; all of my problems may have started when I upgraded to 10.4.4 but I am not sure. Anyway I could not sync one night, and so I fiddle around a bit and got it to work. A couple more off/on success/failures... and now I cannot sync at all (except with the cable). I tried a hard reset and even upgrading the software to 1.04-VZW. I use other BT functions on the phone and so I know it is working. I get the same error message "port in use..." whether the computer is on or not. Sigh. Someone??

yup, did that a couple of times now. Reset Treo...done. Enable/disable BT...a few times. I'm not doing anything fancy, not using any outside software (missing link, etc.). Just in case, I just bought one of those retractable Treo/USB sync cables on ebay to keep in my laptop bag...nice little device, and charges the Treo also. I think I've given up on the BT sync...way too much effort. I do like the BT headset, tho.

I never had the on again / off again symptoms, but have been through this as well.... It took me a month to get it all to work when I got the Treo last summer - very aggrevating. Apple blamed the Treo. Palm blamed Verizon. The carrier blamed Apple... Everyone 'knew' their part was ccorrect. And maybe they were all right, because finally, it synced ... both to iSync and with HotSync to the Powerbook... but I had been turning things on and off again so often I had no idea what finally worked. It worked great for 6 months until I overloadd the memory on the Treo with a long video and had to do a hard reset and wipe all the memory.

There was the old 'in use' msg. again, but I got it to work again that eve.

Well, another few months have passed and I overloaded the memory again, had to do a hard reset, and thought, "Hey, no big deal as I have it covered...". The iSync came right back, but I cannot get the HotSync to work.

Its been two days and I have monkeyed around with it, changing everything I can think of, turning it on and off in every combination, and it still won't HotSync. Now, it won't even syn with the cabe, but will iSync to my Mac account.

I was pretty sure it had to be a problem with the Treo as I knew the Powerbook was unchanged, but now I've changed those settings so many times that I'm not sure where I am. Aaaarrrgghh! If anyone has figured this out, HELP! Please!? ;-)

I think mine stopped syncing when i upgraded to 10.4.4 and around the same time i upgraded the palm software. Now it won't sync either with the cable or BT. Can anyone help???? I have been working on this for 2 weeks now! can't sync!

Which provider do you have? When did it stop syncing? After 10.4.4 or after you upgraded the Palm software? When you updated the Palm software, I assume you downloaded the "treo" version of Palm Desktop? Which revision are you running?

Sorry for all the questions. This info might help us troubleshoot the problem.

I have cingular. it started not syncing after i had upgraded both. i am using revd. it is super frustrating. when i use the bt i get the unable to sync, port is in use by another app. when i use the cable i get a message that says "the connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. please check your setup and try again. argh

There are SO many blogs and posts and sites with this type of problem... Most seem to be using Verizon but not all, obviously, as Shreddles here has Cingular...

I don't think it is a Tiger issue as I had a problem when I upgraded but did get it to HotSync with enough playing around. Basically, that has happened everytime I had to upgrade any software, reset the Treo, etc. Some I have managed to hit upon quicker, but I am beginning to think it is more luck than skill, lol. The real problem seems to be that when trying to figure it out, it may be set right and yet still not sync due to some quirk, then the assumption is made that a setting is off...

Don't get me wrong, I love(d) it when its all working fine, but unless I can get it to sync soon I'll have to move to another phone... There's no sense using the Treo if all the contact and datebook info won't sync easily (I can do it through iSync and .Mac but that won't move the pictures / videos, notes, etc.).

This is SO frustrating!

I may have stumbled on something that works. Doesn't make sense to me why but I have synced 5 times using this approach. None of the other solutions I've read on any boards have.

Here are the steps:
1) With Bluetooth System Settings open, Start sync from Treo
2) Switch tabs (Settings to Device or Device to Settings).

Not sure if it matters which tab you are switching from or to. I'm just glad to sync.
