| Bluetooth Hot Sync with Mac issues Can someone tell me why my Verizon 650 says "Unable to initiate HotSync operation becuasse the port is in use by another application."
I've discovered the phone, paired it up, and see it in the devices list on my system.
What I'm using: Verizon Treo 650. Hawking HBTC1 bluetooth adaptor, G5 PowerMac, OS X 10.4.2
Any help much appreciated. I don't want to use iCal, or Address Book, I want to continue using my Palm Desktop.
Thanks for helping |

| Bluetooth Mac Syncing with Treo Just a guess, but have you checked that you have the latest drivers from Hawking? Are you able to send files to the Mac? This would of course confirm that the Bluetooth is working --

| Enabling Bluetooth Sync with Treo 650 and mac os x Hey, found this courtesy of Michael from the Apple boards... Verizons' on-board Wireless Sync application must be reconfigured to allow the synchronization of your device with other applications. {Why this is not enabled by default it beyond me, but I think it says something out Verizon Wireless…]
To do so, launch Wireless Sync and navigate to Setup/Connection Settings. Press the Advanced tab, then select Enable other sync apps. You will then be able to use iSync with your Verizon Treo 650. It's worked for others... |

| Brad-
Also, don't read too much into the error message, "Unable to initiate HotSync operation becuase the port is in use by another application."
I tried initiating a HotSync via Bluetooth when I was two rooms away from my Powerbook. I did this because I was curious if it would work with me being so far away. Well, it didn't and I received the same message. In my case, I was receiving an incorrect message. The port wasn't in use -- it should have been "The Treo cannot find the requested Bluetooth port. The port might be disabled or out or reach".

| Thanks for the replies, Chris. It makes sense now that i know it wasn't about another application in use, just the signal connection.
I don't know why (darn it), but when I tried to Hot Sync today, it worked. I haven't changed any settings since last time, and its the same distance from the machine.
Go figure, but again thanks for clarifying.
Maybe if I want to live dangerously, I'll change to using iSync, but right now I'm happy with the Palm desktop.
Cheers! |

| Hi there, just found this forum and saw that brad was having the same problem as I have been having...random recognition of bluetooth by the treo 650. Sometime I get the "port in use" message, sometimes it works...very frustrating. I have to break out the sync cable and do it "old style". Right now i haven't been able to sync using bluetooth for a couple of weeks. Does anyone else have this random problem?...and what have you done to fix it? thanks for any help |

| yup, me too... OSX 10.3.9. Using Missing Sync and D-Link BT adapter. Random success for me. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Haven't discovered any common circumstances to the failures yet. I've removed the artifact "Bluetooth-PDA-Sync" through the Bluetooth Serial Utility as recommended by MarkSpace KB. I can "Send File" to the Treo from the Mac via BT, and then still it won't sync. I can't find any obvious application conflicts, though it does seem to happen after launching Missing Sync to load installs or change profiles. How could it be signal failure? I'm 2 ft away from my mac! Soft Reset does no good. Rebooting the Mac seems to work (like that'll happen).
For example, this morning I sync successfully via BT (everything but itunes enabled), then this afternoon while trying a quick install (just install) it fails with the "port conflict" error. argh!
And now, I just toggled bluetooth on/off on the treo, and its working... gimme a break. Will post after further testing to see if this is a reliable work-around...
Thanks for the start to a solution.

| still won't sync well, just got a new Powerbook, this one with Tiger 10.4.3, and still getting the "unable to initiate Hotsync...blah, blah, blah" message. I tried removing the device, reinstalling it...still no. Tried synching via the cable (thank god for good old-fashioned cables), then switching back to Bluetooth...still no. Been over a month now since I've been able to BT sync. Used to be random, now seems pretty permanent...hmmmmmm. |

| Hotsync Manager Have you enabled the BT sync port in HotSync Manager (it's on the "Connection Settings" tab)? |
