Default Cannot add my Treo to iSync

I must have done something to mess things up. I was happily using Missing Sync latest 5. version, to sync with Address Book and iCal on my PowerBook (Tiger). Suddenly, syncing "hung" at MarkSpace Events.

I have done everything but rip my hair out. Uninstalled and reinstalled Missing Sync. Uninstalled again. Wiped out Palm software, and reinstalled newest version from the Palm website. Hard reset  my Treo.

I can now sync with HotSync (but of course, all my "events" and contacts are with iCal and Address Book. When I try to enable iSync, I find that I cannot add my device! On checking things in System Profiler, my Treo does NOT show up in the USB list, yet, as I said, I can sync via USB.

Help, someone! I am nearly ready to re-install Tiger, but I'd rather find an answer here. I have not had any luck yet with MarkSpace, or with Palm support. Anyone with any ideas?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Before this started, did you add anything new or change something that would have caused this?

Try restarting with your Tiger CD and "repairing permissions". If you haven't done this before, it's very easy. You launch Disk Utility prior to installation and you can select Repair Permissions. Hope this is clear. Given all the steps you taken with installing/uninstalling, I'm guessing that you're a Mac pro.

Also, check out this thread Cannot Enable Palm OS Syncing.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response, Chris. And I am hardly a Mac pro..., but thanks.
I had read the thread you recommended, and changed those permissions. It hasn't helped. And I can't figure out how to restart with the Tiger CD to repair permissions from there; can you advise?

My guess is that the iSync conduit is somehow messed up. This morning, I tried again to enable iSync, and sure enough, when I tried to sync, I lose any syncing to either my Mac Calendar, or to my Palm Desktop. And now, when I try to re-enable my "disabled Palm conduits", they don't appear in the library/application support/Palm HotSync folder. In fact, I can't "find" any conduits!!!

I am thinking that I might need to reinstall Tiger. Do you (or anyone) have thoughts on that, and the best way to backup and then restore my applications and files if I do an "erase and install?"

Sorry to be so long winded... I am SO frustrated!!!!!

    Thanks again.

I'm always hesitant to recommend such a drastic measure because it involves backing up your Mac.

I'm moving next week, so my disk is packed up. Let me see if my memory serves me correctly.

    Insert the Tiger CD.

Restart and hold the C button during this which will cause your Mac to use the CD as the start up disc.

You'll see the installation screen come up. I believe you can select DISK UTILITY from one of the menus (file menu?).

Highlight your hard drive. In the right hand portion of the window, you'll see Verify and Repair Permissions. Select Repair Permissions. I usually run this twice. You can also repair your disk which won't hurt.

In order for your Mac to do this correctly, it must be done when using another startup disc. In this case, the Mac OS Tiger CD will do just fine.

Have you uninstalled Missing Sync? That's important if you plan on going back to Palm Desktop.

I'd try unistalling MS, repairing permissions, try getting the sync process working and then enabling the iSync conduit.

If your Treo has all of your calendar dates/contacts etc, then you can set your conduits to overwrite the desktop (if you choose to reinstall Tiger). To be on the safe side, I'd suggest copying the Palm folder (with your User folder) on a CD.

Sorry again for the late response. When I have "tech" problems, a day can seem like an eternity.

    Default Finally fixed

Just wanted to thank you, Chris for your help and suggestions. I finally am able to sync again, using MS.
Ulimately, I did end up erasing and re-installing OS X. Then I installed the Palm software. Then I upgraded to the most current OS X. I resent iSync, and stopped syncing with .Mac. I fixed permissions, and finally installed Missing Sync. Sucess at last!

I did back up all my important stuff (Backup software from .Mac was useful), and fortunately, I seem to have all my photos and music and back, intact. This was not a "pretty" week, but I did learn alot.

I also found out how much I rely on my Treo, and it's "syncablility"!

    Thanks again.

Are you syncing with your iApps? Which version of Missing Sync are you using?

Glad to hear things are working again!

I am synching with iCal and Address Book, but not synching them with .Mac right now. I am using Missing Sync 5.0.3.

I really don't know what was at the root of the problem, but basically, it eventually turned out OK.

    Thanks again.

    Default Help with 700p Treo

Hello, I have a Treo 700p that I feel is a great phone, but I don't know how to use it to it's full capacity. I have a 60gig ipod, but I know my phone does everything my ipod does. I would like to learn how to download full movies, music and podcast for starters. Thanks
