Default Considering buying a Treo--questions for Mac users

    Hi Mac Treo users,

I'm considering replacing my Palm with a Smartphone but haven't decided. I wanted to find out what issues I'll encounter as a Mac user if I get a Treo. (I'll post the non-Mac-specific questions in another area.) It would probably be a 700p, since Sprint/CompUSA no longer sells 650.

-My Palm Desktop software (for Mac) is 4.2.1. Will that be compatible with Smartphone's Palm OS?

-Syncing computer with Palm M505 as well as Treo shouldn't be a problem if conduit settings for sync to Palm M505 don't include installs and backup, right? (Since Treo has much more space for programs than Palm, I couldn't have them completely synced with each other, but it would be good to have databases synced on both: address, calendar, memo, tasks...)

-For those who have experience with keyboards, which wireless PDA keyboards work with Mac and which don't?

-Aside: What is this new Entourage program? I currently use Outlook (an old version in Mac Classic environment) for email (on computer only) and Palm Desktop for contacts, calendar, etc.

    I'm appreciative of any advice.

Yes, but you'll want to use the software that comes with the Treo. Probably the same version, but installs a few "treo specific" things.

Some programs might not be compatible with the Treo. When upgrading from a previous Palm device, it's a good idea to follow these directions from Palm.

It's not so much a Mac/PC thing as much as a Treo thing. You'll find Treo compatible keyboards in our store.

Entourage is not so new, it was released with Office 2004. I believe a new version is already in the works and will surface in 2007.

Good luck and welcome to ET.

Sorry, I don't know how to reply & quote easily.

-Regarding the Palm Desktop software that comes with the Treo, if I upgrade to that, would I be able to sync with my M505? Or is it backwards compatible or whatever they call it? I read the directions you link to. I'm not concerned about the other programs--just whether I can have my Palm Desktop database synced to both M505 and Treo at same time.

-Regarding keyboards, I wouldn't think it's a Mac issue, but I read a customer review of a Targus keyboard that said it didn't work with Macs. (I didn't know what that meant, since you're using it with a PDA, not a computer, but I could only assume that the driver software necessary to install on the Palm was not in Mac format.) I don't think you have Targuses in your store, though.

-Re Entourage and Outlook--They dropped outlook for Mac office. Sorry this isn't a Treo-related question, but do you know what the difference is between Outlook and Entourage? Just curious, since I still use Outlook in Mac Classic.

    Thanks.
