Default Considering Purchase...Questions!!

I have been considering a Treo 650 purchase for some time now, but I just wanted to clarify the following (salespeople could not answer my questions)...

Just want to make sure the Treo 650 will synchronize with Mac's Address Book and Calendar. Is there any special software I need to make this happen? Also, I have read mixed reviews on the Treo online, which I have to say is a big reason why I have been waiting before plunking down the significant change.

Thanks in advance for the feedback!

Jane

Glad that you've found Everything Treo! I'll see what I can do to answer your questions.

The Treo 650 comes with Palm Desktop - a full featured contact management program. HotSync Manager is the program that syncs data between Palm Desktop and your Treo 650. In order to use the iApps, you need to "Enable Palm OS Syncing" for iSync on your Mac. This basically puts the unused "conduits" in Palm Desktop in a "disabled" folder and uses iSync in it's place. It tells HotSync Manager to transfer contacts, calendars between your iApps and your Treo rather than with Palm Desktop.

To answer your question... Yes, without a doubt, you can use your Mac with your Treo -- and sync your iApps. Some of chosen to use Missing Sync -- which is basically a souped up version of HotSync manager.

Out of the box, you will be able to sync with the iApps. I'm assuming you are running Tiger? OS 10.4. Correct?

Default Mac Funtionality

I am also interested in purchasing a Treo and would like to know what features are available for use with Macs. So far I have heard about:

- using it as a wireless modem
- syncing with address book and calender
- remote control with Salling Clicker

What other programs can it sync with? How are other users making the most of the Mac/Treo integration?

Thanks,

Colin

If you use Missing Sync (which acts as a replacement for Palm's HotSync), you can mount your SD card right in iTunes. This will allow you to drag and drop your music straight to the Treo. With an adapter or compatible headset, the Treo can double as a solid MP3 player - if you don't already have an iPod.

It's also pretty easy to create files from your DVD's and watch them on your Treo. There is a great free Mac program called Handbrake that handles the conversion. TCPMP is a free player that works great.

Missing Sync also works well with iPhoto.

Here are just a few ways how the Treo can be integrated/work with your Mac.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your decision.
