Default Duplicate enrty's in Address Book...

Has anyone ever experienced syncing your address book and seeing duplacate entry's?

I synced my AB 1 time, saw duplacate entry's on my mac, and treo, and have since disabled that conduit. I would love to sync my AB, but not at the price of having to delete multiple entry's every time. Any suggestions?

I experienced in unbelieable fashion in iCal. I deleted all of the duplicates -- which was REAL slow in iCal. At the end of the day, I was able to get everything running. Now, I have to transfer everything from my Treo 600 to my Treo 650.

Default If I changed ANYTHING on a Treo contact, it duplicated in AB

    (running Mac OS X(10.4.2)
I was trying to figure out how to "file" my contacts on Treo 650. (Go to Contacts:Edit:Details and choose from family, friends, business, etc.)

I put family members in "Family" and the next time I did hot-sync those contacts were all duplicated in my PowerBook Address Book . But I couldn't find a "family" field in Address Book on the contacts I had "filed" as "family" on the Treo.

I did find out how to send one or several vcards from Mac to Treo (instead of hotsyncing), which is to export the addresses you want from Mac's Address Book as vCards. Then highlight them, go to Services under the Finder Menu and "Blue-tooth" them to your Treo. So that is what I am going to do until someone can figure out how not to duplicate upon hot-syncing.

Does that help or make any sense? I, too, would like to know if anyone out there knows if you can hot-sync without duplicating.

    Thanks, JoAnn

Default I have had this problem too

I think the problem is probably with Mac, cause I was getting dupes long before Treo.

A good idea before upgrading or doing anything with contacts is to export your address book and calendar. If it creates duplicates, restore them and there goes any problems. If you get duplicates on the handheld, just set the desktop to overwrite handheld, voila.

I've also experienced numerous duplicates in my calendar listings, and would like to eliminate them with a few keystrokes rather than having to manually delete each one. Any suggestions?

If syncing continues to cause these headaches, you might try resetting sync history. Here's how I'd do it:

    1. Make sure all your contacts, appointments, and tasks on your Mac are updated & correct.
    2. Launch the iSync app, go to Prefs, and click the Reset Sync History... button. Proceed.
    3. From the HotSync Manager, set the Contacts, DateBook, and Tasks/ToDo conduits to overwrite the handheld.
    4. HotSync. If you're asked to merge information, don't: overwrite/replace the Treo's information with the Mac's information.

If dups still appear, try brute force:

    1. Download & install Filez. (Typically this requires a hot sync, but disable all except the Install conduit.)
    2. Repeat steps 1-3 above.
    3. Launch Filez, tap View and Edit Files, tap the triangle next to Internal, and check (by tapping) the following files: CalendarDB-PDat, ContactsDB-PAdd, and TasksDB-PTod. Delete them.
    4. HotSync.

Let us know successes or failures. Good luck!

    -K

P.S. If you want to easily delete duped entries should they occur, try this app.

Default Turning off "fast user switching" avoids some sync problems

Try turning off "fast user switching" to avoid some problems with syncing. I still get duplicate items sometimes, but when I had "fast user switching" activated on my Mac, it caused lots of problems syncing my Palm.
