What about categories in Address Book?
I started with the Palm Professional the first year Palm Pilot's came out. I "grew up" with the limitations and freedoms of the base applications. After several years syncing on a PC I switched back to a Mac. The desktop application change to Claris had frustrated me before. With the 16 category limit on the palm side the 64 category choice on the desktop side caused confusion. I finally color coded my categories by palm application so that I wouldn't try to create a new item on the desktop and supply a category that I didn't have on my palm. Not being able to create a note that worked as a note on handheld didn't help me like the palm desktop application any better. With my new Aluminum PowerBook I was looking forward to using the new apps from Apple and iSync. But the first time I tried syncing there went all my categories! With almost 1200 addresses carefully categorized this hurt. How do you others deal with the difference between the palm applications and the desktop options when using iSync?

After successfully syncing iCal and Address Book, installing EReader and a ton of books, some games and other knick-knacks, I decided to add Ringo. This was late Tuesday night, since I didn't even open the box until after work, which is late evening for me.
I got the reboot of death that has been mentioned in these forums. I did a hard reset, then sync'ed.
It killed my Address Book and my iCal.
I guess since the Treo had been changed last, Missing Sync decided to match my Mac with the Treo.
Mea Culpa, I should know better.
I Quick -Switched to my wife's desktop, and export her Address Book, place it in Shared, and go back to my desktop. We have about 70 - 80 contacts in common, so it saved me a ton of typing. I found my last backup, from Nov 2004 which I got about 20 more. I had to add the rest myself. And I had to redo my iCal from scratch.
Needless to say, it's all backed up now. And on a CD. And a USB drive. and on my GMail drive.

That's odd. Did Missing Sync see it as a "new" Treo and ask to associate with a user?

Mac users rock. We use Macs because quite simply...they work. If we have a problem, we seek out a solution and run with it.
You've reminded me to get a backup solution in place. I've got a 300GB hard drive that's sole purpose is to back up my G5 and wife's powerbook. God help me if she ever lost her music. I had to hear it for months after I did a clean install and lost her playlists.
