When a re-set is done does it prevent the Sync from importing mail or accessing the web afterward? I'm a bit concerned about unintended consequences of a reset.
A reset will not affect your ability to perform these functions. You might have to turn your service back on -- but that's about it.

When you say "sync", are you actually using wireless sync, or do you just mean a hotsync? Doing a reset will not affect your using the web, however, if you are actually using wireless sync to take care of your email, then you will have problems. The best thing to do for mail is download a new mail client- you can find them all over the place for the Palm. Mark Space has one that works well.

The only concern you should have when doing a reset is if you do a hard reset. Before you do that, you will want to backup all of your Treo info via a hotsync or onto a memory card. A hard reset may delete all of your data. However, it will not delete the phone functions such as your number, internet access, all of that. That stuff is part of your verizon plan.
