New Mac User Wants To Sync iApps
Right Hello, Ok so i've just got a new Treo 650 and i'm gonna need your help, that dosent mean to say i'm a Newbie, Noobo, Knob or whatever it is, I remember the great printer wars of '92' i was there!!!!! i was there when you needed a small generator to run your mobile phone......I was even there when they handed out silicon chips taped to bits of cardboard and told us that was our future.
Unfortunatly i used mine to carve my name in the desk, so consequentialy i'm gonna need your help.
I want to sync using i-cal and Address Book using OS X where is the best place to start, at the moment Treo & Powerbook are Talking but refuseing to share any files addresses etc.
I believe all computers should be free.

Hi Johnny and welcome to ET. I'm going to move your thread over to the Mac and Treo forum. When I saw the title, I was expecting to see Spam. I come across it once a day and do my best to rid the forums of it.
Anyway, on to your PowerBook and your Treo. Great combo. I have it mysef.
Here's what I normally do to get the two communicating. I assume you have Tiger.
• Install the Treo Palm Desktop Software that came with your Treo.
• After installation, connect your Treo using the provided USB. Open HotSync on your Treo and press the screen to connect. This is to be sure we've got your mac and your Treo communicating
• When complete, go to Applications > iSync. Go to File > Enable Palm OS Syncing.
• Go to Applications > Palm > HotSync Manager. From the menu, select HotSync > Conduit Settings
• Double click the iSync conduit. Make sure it is checked to Enable iSync for this device
• Close everything. Open your Treo, press Home > HotSync. Press the screen to initialize the HotSync process. Your Treo should now sync with your iApps - address book and iCal

Chris, Thanks for all of the Mac support!
I have been using entourage, but would like to do as Johnny wants to do, but I'm using Panther.
Are all of your instructions correct for Panther too?
Thanks

Thanks For The Prompt Reply.
Assuming that the 'NOT' in the last line of your reply should read 'NOW' is it a good idea to hard reset my treo and reinstall the palm software on my Mac so as to start from scratch?
I have already tried to sync it using the calender and address book supplied and it is not giving me an option to change the conduits!

That couldn't hurt. Starting from scratch always makes for good clean start.

No problem. Always here for my fellow Mac users!
With regards to Panther, I believe you'll need to install the iSync conduit. The basic overall steps still apply. Not 100% sure about the enable Palm OS syncing with iSync 1.5
That doesn't help with Entourage. For that you need Microsoft Entourage Handheld Sync.

Hmmmm.... I've had this before, but just click ok and move on.

I set up most of my accounts as POP3, so there isn't any real synchronization. However, I do use IMAP for a few accounts. If you have a dot mac, then of course you can set that up as an IMAP.
Here's a video tutorial on setting up VersaMail and straight HTML page on how to set up email on your treo.

Missing Sync
I bought Mark Space's Missing Sync (http://www.markspace.com/)
Yea yea I know it's $39.95 that we shouldn't have to spend but it works extremely well, you can sync music and photos from iTunes and iPhoto, does a way better job at syncing contacts, and yes. It's really unfortunate Palm doesn't bundle this app with the Treo but oh well.
