My 700p (Verizon) syncs just fine with my Powerbook and 10.4. I originally used the regular Palm software, but then I switched over to Missing Sync and never looked back.

Missing Sync...What is that? I'm a rookie here and cannot seem to connect my new 700p to my Powerbook...Usually, I can plug anything onto my computer and it recognizes it...Do i have to install some type of driver or something? I want to download apps and put them onto my Treo but have no idea how to...Please help, I love my new gadget but am getting pretty frustrated...I've looked all over the forum for any postings as well, but haven't found what I'm looking for.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Missing Sync (see Review) is a third party HotSync manager. Basically, it extends the functionality of the Treo w/ your mac. When you connect your Treo to your Mac, it will not mount like an iPod. If you initiate a HotSync, it should connect. Have you installed the Palm Desktop software? That's the first step in establishing communication with your mac and I'd suggest that before considering Missing Sync.

Now, with Missing Sync, there is an application on the Treo that allows you to mount your SD card. This allows you to easily drag and drop files to the SD card - in effect bringing them to your Treo.

The Palm Treo 700p is mac compatible out of the box - comes with all the software you need to communicate and HotSync your data. The Treo 700w does not support the mac. However, with the use of Mark/Space's Missing Sync for Windows Mobile 2.5.1, you can sync your Mac with a Windows based Treo smartphone. I've used it with the 700w and the Motorola Q. Works great.

Just to add my two cents as a mac user. My 700p works great with my intel iMac. So far I have only used the Palm desktop, had been using older version with my previous palm cellphone (the old Kyocera 75xx).

My only experience with USB syncing was like with previous palm devices I sometimes had to unplug and replug to get syncing with the desktop. But since my iMac has bluetooth I decided to try bluetooth syncing with the Treo 700p. It works like a charm everytime for me, no need to even plug in anylonger to the mac.

    Question Chris.....syncing w/ palm treo 700p

i am trying to sync on the windows side of "parallels" on my macbook pro. I was not able to do it.

Should I first install the hot sync software to the "mac side?"

The reason (among 2) is because I want to be able to use PdaNet which does not offer a mac version. Therefore I "have to" use it on the windows parallels side.

The REAL solution would be to find a way to use my treo 700p as a modem on the mac side.....any solutions?
