    Default TomTom install????

OKAY, Nothing like beating my head against a brick wall. I've spent way to many hours trying to install TomTom Navigator 5 (purchased from EverythingTreo) onto my new Treo 700p from Sprint.
I'm using at PB PowerPC G4 1.67GHZ Mac OS X 10.4.6 with Palm HotSync. I have a 2mb SD card in the Treo. I've download the latest TomTom installer, inserting the TomTom CD after I've launched the installer. I also installed the latest TomTom Conduit.
Using Palm HotSync I get this message:
"TomTom Navigator to Expansion Card: 0%" - it then goes to 1% and I get this note:
"No Palm volume with 8 mb free space for usaf3
    Insert a (larger) memory card."
Hit OK to try again on next HotSync, hit cancel to delete 'usaf3.ini' and usaf3cab'."
Then HotSync crashes freezing the Treo with a note on the PB "Unkown Sync Error [16385]"

With that 1% installation I get this (after HotSync crash). On the Treo "desktop" I see the application called "Contacts" which a TomTom logo. When I open that application it has my address book. When I attempt to launch the application the Treo crashes.

So then I tried using Missing Sync.
With that installation my contacts in Entourage get messed up tripling one email address into three.
I do get the TomTom installed into the Palm desktop but when I launch the application the Treo crashes.

What the heck do I need to do to correct this. I'm headed on a trip this weekend and would love to have my route navigated.

First off, thanks for ordering from here. I appreciate it.

Now, let's get down to business and see if we can get TomTom installed on your Treo.

I have seen a number of issues with various installers, so I'm going to recommend you use this version of the software. TomTom installs two applications on your Treo - Contacts Navigation and Navigator. Navigator is basically the TomTom application. Contacts allows you to quickly navigate to anyone in your address book.

Take a look at this post as I think it's very much related to your issue and how it was resolved. Here's the complete thread. I didn't do step 5, but opted to sync. It does take LONG time to install maps. Of course, make sure you have enough free space and I'd recommend installing only the map(s) you'll need for your trip.

TomTom can be a real pain to install/activate, but I promise you -- it's a fabulous program once up and running.

    Hope this helps.

It's been a while since I've installed TomTom, but...

when installing, are your trying to install the app first -- without getting into the maps, etc?

As a Mac user, are you using the TT04 image referenced above?

I really hate that Mac users (myself included) are having issues installing this software. I just don't get it -- TomTom has a great product, but they cause everyone attempting to install so much grief.

Here's a workaround from MacOS X Hints , but have no idea if this would work.

Have you sent a support ticket to TomTom? Curious what they have to say about the problem.

I called TomTom and the tech that I talked to said that the Nav5 software is not compatible with the Treo 700p. Not sure what is going on with that? Yes, the only thing that I have tried (and failed) to install is the application. I can't ever get the conduit install, so I have never been able to install anything on my phone.

Very disappointed with their customer service. While it's not on the "officially supported list", it completely works with the 700p. I have experienced absolutely no issues going from 650 to 700 with TomTom. It's obvious that the install process is the issue, rather than 700p compatibility. Troubles with TomTom installs date back to the 650. It frustrates me because I've readily endorsed their product. When it's set up, it rocks. I just wish it weren't so difficult to a. install b. activate.

Not sure what is going on with that? Yes, the only thing that I have tried (and failed) to install is the application.
Are you using TT04 link for the installer. Don't even bother with the CD's just yet.

Yes. Then what do I do when it asks for a tomtom cd?

I usually put in the cd that came with the kit and it installs on my computer but then when I try and sync to my phone the conduit always fails. I have tried the conduit from the Mac OSX hints site and it still won't install??

My mistake, just tried the TT04 and yes you do need the CD.

The conduit has no bearing on the install of the application. In fact, when I switched to the 700p, I moved everything to my desktop Mac -- and the TomTom conduit doesn't even exist on my Mac.

What we're trying to see happen is the TT04 setup locate the application and place it for installation. Are you seeing anything related to TomTom on your Treo? When you say the conduit fails, let me know what's happening.

I have dinner plans, but will check back tomorrow morning -- with TomTom Install CD's in hand. I'll see what I can do to help you get through the process.

You could try deleting the apps from your Treo and from your Backup folder (Documents>Palm>User>Yourname>Backup

If not, they'll make their way on the following HotSync.

Go through the install process - you shouldn't have to move your maps off your SD Card. You will need a new Activation code - have all of your info handy to access the TT activation page.

In a worse case scenrio, you could resort to a hard reset - erasing all data from your Treo - renaming the backup folder to old_backup. If you get stuck, let me know and I can help with that process.

Good luck. Let me know how you make out.
