I think that unknown at this time. At first they were saying that it might be only available where alltel was currently and were not going to be included in the areas that Verizon was not going to be able to keep after the mergher. I think thats ptoven not to be the case. But no word as to Verizon being able to offer it directly.

I had just heard about Alltel and Verizon mergeing today, I knew that Alltel released the Pro a few weeks before Sprint did. I do not want to switch to sprint. But it if it goes much longer without VW stepping up and releasing the pro, I think I am just going to bite the bullet and do it.

    Reidkus,
Don't know what part of the country you're in, but in my area, Sprint has terrible coverage. I would NOT switch to Sprint from Alltel even if they paid me to take the phone. What good is a cool phone if you can't use it more often than not? I'm Alltel as well, and trying to decide if I should bump up from my 755p to a Pro....or wait for the maybe release of a Pre. If the Pro had the regular Palm OS that has been around forever, I would already have one. The Winmobile OS is all that is making me hesitate. I can't decide if all of the folks that trash Winmobile are just Microsoft haters or are their complaints legitimate?

I have had palm products with both os's since the plam IIIc and I like the pro very much. I previously had a 750 with winmo now in the hands of my daughter' soon to be husband and a 650 and 600 before that in between the IIIc and the 600 I had two win mo pda's the casio e-200 and the HP Journada 567. The 2 win mo pdas I did not like as much bc of active stink installtion issues ( call them headaches almost terminal). I was extremely happy with the 750 and am so with the pro.

    JFA,
To clarify, you have had original Palm OS and now have Winmobile and are OK with Winmo? I date back to Palm Tungsten and actually before that....can't recall that model designation....but I am very familiar with what I can and can't do.....not too wild about having to learn a new way to do "To Do" lists, look up contacts, set alarms, etc. Do you think Winmo is overall a better system....once you get over the learning curve?

I like win mo better but its a matter of personal preference. Which is fixing for many to be perhaps easier as palm is no lontger making any straight palm os devices. I was thinking about switching to blackberry but non touch screen is too big a change for right now. Thought about an epix they are having issues on the ATT network with "slog dump" pre dont like Sprint and have my wife and daughter on the contract. For me it was easy to stay with palm and the pro. palm os simpler requires less memory but no multitasking I was used to win mob with active sync 2.xx and 3.xx and that was what took me so long to switch back but as 4.1 and 4.5 on the treos was a brezze to ste bup and win mo is okay could be lots better updates could be pushed out lots quicker but I am familar with it it. Switching from palm os to win mob is easy particularly if you have been using outlook I just di a hot synch on the 650 then put my sim in the 750 and did the active sync setup for winmob and it went like a breeze. There a section in the user guide on migrating fromn palm os to win mob. Follow the directions and it should be a snap for you as well. I dfownloaded the user guide from the web in pdf format and printed it. Dis the same for 750 and again when I upgraded the 750 to wm 6 and then when I got the pro did the same thing for 6.1. I like to be able to read it on 8.5x11 paper take notes dog ear and highlight stuff I need to remember. It reinforces problems solved and helps me in the forums to answer questions here at ET and at treonauts.
