    Smile Word Mobile Errors

    Hi there.

Have a Palm Treo Pro which i am having problems opening previous versions of word documents within email messages. If the attachment is in *.docx format it opens fine from within the email. If its a *.doc it goes through the motions and then reports the following error:

"An error occurred. The document could not be opened"

However if i do a save as the document opens fine, i can also create documents in *.doc format that open correctly.

Within Word Mobile 6.1 i have set the Default Template to be *.doc. I have also followed other posts which suggested recreating the templates folder, but also copying new versions of the .dot and .dotx templates

The client is highly frustrated. Any assistance with this would be much appreciated.

the .docx is the office 2007 default document format and the .doc is the earlier format default. In office 2007 you can set word to save in the office 2003 compatible format. Have you tried so a soft reset? Other than that it would seem that you setting for the default of .doc are perhaps different in some other program on the device or the desktop is overrising the device in format selection.
